What grease to put on idler pulley?

Hello. I have a GE profile prodigy dryer. I changed part for idler pulley but what grease do I put on the the metal bar. Lithium or Silcone? Confused on what to look for and what max temperature the grease should withstand.

Hello Gausia;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Dryers are subject to lint and dust. They are not like your automobile engine where you need to lubricate bearings and
belts.

Dryers only have sleeve bearings not ball bearings.

Lubricating these sleeve bearings or belt will collect the dirt & lint.

Do not grease at all.

How come when i changed the belt there is so much play on the new belt im not sure if i have the idler tensioner on right ?

That could be the problem look at how the belt is running thru the tensioner and the shaft of the motor. Then run the belt the opposite way if still the same you might have the wrong belt. Get the model number off the dryer and take new belt back to parts house with model number to make sure its right hope this helps.

How do you take the front panel off of a GE Profile Prodigy Dryer DPSR483 GAWW? There is a squeeking noise inside.

Best off to call a reliable service company such as Sears. You have to remove the top and take 2 screws off that hold the front panel on but this is a gas appliance which requires a gas technician to legally work on it.

My GE Profile Dryer is still operating but produces loud intermitent noise as the drum rotates. What can I do to eliminate the noise?

It sounds like you may have a bad bearing in the back of the drum. That model rotates on a sort of ball and socket type mechanism. You may be able to lubricate it if the noise is just squealing/squeaking. If it is more than that, you'll probably need to replace the bearing mechanism. If you lube it, use a heavy weight lube that is rated for high heat (I've used brake caliper grease.)

Drum turns but makes a banging and metal grinding sound

The felt bearing on the front of the drum is worn out. Immediately stop running the dryer, and replace the plastic drum inserts and put in a new felt bearing before machine damage happens (if it hasn't already). While there, grease the rear bearing and the idler pulley bearing. Check the belt too. Good luck.

Need a btlt route so i can put the new drum back in my ge profile

route the belt around the drum, pull the spring loaded idler pulley to the postion that requires you to hold it there..
put the belt : 1 through the motor pulley and around the idler pulley, or 2. around the idler pulley which ever works to keep the tensioner tight. (Idler pulley, tensioner same thing its the pulley not on the motor.
Once you put the belt on the durm, pull the idler pull so there is tension on it it should be clear how it goes.
