Black & Decker Steam Buster SV1000. Can't get to steam (or spray). Never used before but have had for several years. Nothing clogged. 50 water/50 vinegar in water reservoir. Vacuum works fine. Pump seemingly working - making knocking sound in both steam & spray position (slower in steam position). Heating element is working (light comes on & unit gets warm). Please help :-)...thanks!

Thank you. However, I've had this thing forever (at least 10 years I believe) but never put water in it or used it at all until now...how is it possible that such an integral part is bad? Is it made of plastic? I tried to prime it w/a straw but no air can be blown in (blockage?), if that helps ar all...??? Thanks again Joey!

SOURCE: No steam

I used the straw to prime the lines and 50/50 mix of vinager and water and it worked perfectly. I then mixed the water container with the same mix and ran it through the system. All works fine now.

Everything is working as it should, but it doesn't steam

Minerals in the water may have solidified and clogged it. The vinegar is an acid which can help to dissolve and flush and rinse out the minerals.

My Sunbeam Pro Stream II Teflon shot and spray iron consistently spits water as I try to iron. I don't overfill it and the temperature and steam dials are set correctly. help!

How old is the steam iron?
And what type of water have you been using in it during its life?

The reason I ask, is that my Wife's was doing this, and we have fairly 'hard' water,
and she was using water directly from the tap.
After a year or so of this 'hard' water, calcium and minerals build up in the heating chamber in the iron-- Also passageways get clogged, and instead of smooth flowing steam, you get build-up of pressure, and then sputtering and spurting take place, as the clogged passageways try to pass the steam to where it needs to be.

I had the same problem. I put vinegar in the reservoir for a few days, it worked the tube that takes in the water was clogged.

I''m looking for the cap that holds the water in the reservior, do you know where I can buy one?

Step 1 - fill the rear tank with water. Clip the tank onto the back of the unit.

Step 2 - plug the unit into the wall.

Step 3 - move the switch to "steam". You should hear the unit 'ticking' at the rate of about 120 clicks a minute (2 clicks a second). The clicking should be "kind of" loud until the water makes its way into the pump.

The clicking will get quieter as the water moves through the pump and into the heater. The book says that you should start getting steam in a couple of seconds. My experience is that you don't get a good head of steam up until the unit has been going for about 20 seconds.

Another recommendation: don't use "Spray" until the steam is really rolling out of the unit. It just overpowers the heater and slows your steam production.

Step 4 - Steam the spot you want steamed. If you want to soak the spot, use "Spray". Most of the really good cleaning power of the unit is through the steam, so use that more than spray.

Step 5 - Switch to Vacuum and **** up the moisture from the steaming.

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until you're happy with the cleaning.

Step 6 - Empty the front tank, rinse it out. Empty the rear tank; you probably won't get all of the water out, but that's not a problem. If you use tap water, put in a couple of teaspoons of vinegar and let the unit run until you've sucked the last of the water/vinegar solution out of the tank. If you use distilled water in the rear tank, you might be able to skip this step.

Step 6 is intended to reduce the amount of lime scale that will build up in the pump over time. You should probably avoid stronger chemicals, since they are going to sit in the pump until you use the unit next, and the first few seconds of steam on the next use will have whatever chemicals you are using.

You can download the manual from the link below: http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/ServiceNet/Logon.asp You will need to register but it's free. As you know there's not much to the spray function but you should hear a pump running when you push the switch. You may need to clean the dirt bowl & filter for better results this is described in the manual. Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
