Question about Makita TD090DW 10.8V Compact Li-Ion Cordless Impact Driver Kit

1 Answer

Screw driver bit stuck in chuck of impact driver.

I have a drive bit stuck in the chuck. The last user inserted bit directly in the chuck rather than use a holder, and unfortunately bit has subsequently become stuck. Any suggestions as to how I can remove this, I only have 100mm of the cross head showing, therefore cannot get mole grips on it.

SOURCE: My impact driver doesn't ingage acts like low

Likely to be weak battery due to end of life. Test battery voltage with meter right after charge , then again after use then stop. If voltage changes /drops, battery is worn out. If battery has full charge, check the condition of the battery contacts within the driver. Pull out the battery and look inside. The contacts should look bright and shiney. If dark, may need to replace them, but suspect that the switch is also bad. Good luck.

How to remove a drill bit from insert of screw that holds on driver on an elecctric drill?

do you have the "chuck key"? this is the tool you will need to undo the chuck (part which holds the drill bit). it is often stored in holder in handle of drill. If you dont have chuck key you can improvise using 2 slot head screwdrivers: insert one into one of the 3 holes around chuck, then insert the other into the teeth around check and lever against the 1st screwdriver.

Drillbit stuck

Can not see what model you have. Is it a keyless chuck or an SDS chuck? With a keyless chuck hold the machine in a vice by the drill bit. now tap the chuck with a hammer or pin punch & hammer. DONOT hit the chuck on the jaws gut on the rim around them. I have had success using this method. If it is an SDS type chuck pull the chuck cap up as far as possible along the bit them if there are any ring springs you will have to try remove them then slide the sleeve up the bit, now you should be able to remove any steel balls. If the bit does not come out now hold bit in vice as before and tap on tool holder.

The chuck on my new makita drill is stuck with a drill bit in it. It won't open back up.

This is caused by tightening the chuck using the drills power, if you clamp the bit in a vice and using a pair of multi grips on the chuck in an anti clockwise direction gently bounce the grips and after a few tries it will undo, don't use too much pressure or try to unwind it in one move or myou will damage the chuck sleeve

Play in the sds chuck when a drill bit is inserted

This can be due poor chuck settings and could be that it is not tightening properly. You can oil or use some degreasing spray to unlock the jam or else the chuck could be defective.

I am having tuff time getting bit tolockin I dont know if have the wrong bit but looks like one in picture

The bit should have one flat spot. There are several types of bits. the most common ones are SDS and Spline.
  1. Align the flat of the bit with the yellow triangle and black hexagon on the side of the tool holder sleeve. Must pull back tool holder sleeve to insert bit fully.
  2. Fully insert the bit shank into the chuck. If tool holder sleeve does not spring into original position, the bit is inserted incorrectly.
I will continue to do some more research on that particular model to find the particular bit type. Please provide a rating if this has been of any help. Good Luck and have a Great Day.

How far do you put a bit in to know it's placed correctly. I'm trying to surprise my husband by removing some kitchen cabinets, but I'm not sure I put the bit in right and I don't know how to make the...

Find the reverse switch near the trigger. Press one direction for forward, in the middle is a trigger lock and the other direction is reverse. Dont surprize yourself and have the cabinet fall on you.

If you have short bits, put about 1/2 of it into the chuck. If you have long bits (about 2 inches long), put about 1/2 inch of it into the chuck.

Be aware that when the drill runs in reverse, the chuck tends to loosen and when that happens, your bit will fall out.

If Hubby has a bit holder, I'd suggest you use that and place the bit into the bit holder. Makes for a better reach.

Good luck on your project.

My rattle gun 18V LXT Impact Driver BTD141 has a double ended Philips stuck in it? how do i get it out?

There are a couple of ways to try to free the bit from the drill chuck. But slow and steady is the key, don't hit anything too hard, so as to not damage the chuck in the process, nor break off the bit in the chuck.

You'll need to put the bit into a bench vise and reverse the drill slowly and carefully. Make sure the bit is tightly secured in the vise and that the drill won't spin your hand around and slam it into the bench when you pull the trigger.

As a last resort, you can try tapping the bit sideways, to get it loose. With chuck opened up all the way possible, gently tap the bit sideways. This should also free the bit, but be very careful not to snap the bit off in the chuck, or you'll have a worse situation trying to get a broken bit out of the chuck.

If none of these work, you can attempt to secure the stuck bit in the bench vise and try to tap the drill chuck using a hammer and a flat brass bar resting against the drill chuck, so you don't damage the chuck. Just tap the brass bar to drive the chuck free of the stuck bit. You have to watch the bit in the vise to make certain it's not slipping and that the chuck is getting free.

Hope you find this Very Helful and best regards!

Chuck will not release bit

Hi,

the Chuck should be 2 Part.

Use 2 pair of stillsons Or pipe wrenches, Tight On the 2 Chuck Parts, Crack in opposite Directions.

Alternative, Use Wrench On Chuck Jaw, Short sharp Blow With Hammer.

Stuck bit

I have a thought. How about drilling a small hole from the back(motor side) of the driver assembly and then push out the bit with a small punch? I have considered this, but I don't know yet if the driver is hardened. If this works, the problem should be solved for all users. Then the remaining isue is finding the proper grease for reassembly
