Not necessarily. Snakes don't protect their babies like other animals. Some snakes lay eggs, and once the eggs are laid, the mother goes off in search of food. The babies are on their own. Even snakes who give birth to live babies do so, and the babies are then left to fend for themselves.

Goldfish are egg layers. Unless you have Comets, (commonly referred to as "feeder fish", or "carnival goldfish"), or Koi, they are both in the Carp family and are live-bearing. Meaning once the female gives birth, you must seperate the "fry" a.k.a. baby fish from all other fish in the tank or they'll become a snack. Pet stores sell breeder boxes to float in your tank that the babies stay in until they're big enough that they won't get eaten, there's also special food for babies once they're born or hatched from eggs.
