I had a similar problem a while back when I bought a new cable modem. I didn't realise that my cable provider needed to have the serial number of my cable modem configured on their system.
I ended up calling them to ask them about the problem.
There is no way I could have solved it without calling them.
I think it is to do with stopping unauthorised users from connecting to the cable.
I remember they wanted my name, age and grandma's inside leg measurement before they would help me.
So if you have nothing to hide just give them a ring and make them help you. This is what you pay them for after all.
:)
Ok I understand what you mean now.
Have you tried doing a factory reset on the router?
If you know enough to get a different router working but not this one then it sounds like it may be a hardware problem. I'm assuming you used alll the same cables etc with the one that works?
Sorry my reply took so long. I was expecting to get email notifications of comments here but I don't for some reason.

Thanks for the reply, my issue is more related to the SG300 not negotiating a connection with the cable modem. Using another route actually works and the cable company of course told me I was on my own.
Yea, tried to build the configuration from scratch with no luck using even different cables (new ones). I am thinking as you are it is a hardware issue and no one seems to want to call me back from the new support. Go Figure!!! Thanks.
Mike.
