Re: Ineed to format my laptop dell therfor I need...

If you don't have that CD (which came with the laptop), you still can re-install the OS. But in this case you should go to the manufacturer official site and download all drivers for your laptop model - you'll have to install them after installing new OS.
Your laptop's model # should be written on the bottom of it. Also you can get it in the BIOS (something like "System Info").

How can i reformat my packard bell laptop without the recovery cd?

The recovery cd is just a Pre-Built Windows version that includes the drivers you need for your computer.
If you want to format your pc and lack the original recovery cd, you just need to get a Windows (or other operating system you want) installation CD/DVD, put it on your optical drive and reboot your computer.
On installation, you will be asked what you want to do: Fix or Install. Choose install and check to format your disk.
After installation, if something doesn't work, its because you don't have the needed drivers, so go to Dell's Support Page find your computer, download and install the drivers you are lacking (video card graphics, sound, etc.)
Hope it was helpful ;)

How to reformat laptop

  • 1

If you have the recovery cd, you can just pop-in the CD, select the reformat option and the installation process will continue automatically. Some laptop might have a special partition in the drive contains the operating system, drivers, etc. in case you want to reformat your laptop without the CD.

If you don't have the recovery CD, you usually can request one from the manufacturer. Otherwise, if you want to do a clean install, make sure you download all the drivers for your laptop, this may includes: motherboard, chipset, graphic card, sound card, modem, network card. Once you do that, put in the OS CD and start installing.

If you decided to do a clean install without the recovery CD, it would be best to create partition on your harddrive first, so you can have dedicated partition for operating system and backup. The next time you want to reformat your harddrive, you can just reformat that particular partition ex. C:\

Need to reformat my dell insprion 1501

You first need to ensure that the you have the drivers on the cd's or check if they are avaible on dell's website..

Then you will need a Windows XP CD.. Just put the windows xp formatting cd in cd-drive and restart computer...
When it should say "press any key to continue." (or similar) just press a random key on the keyboard..
(If it doesnt say "press any key to continue", right when you turn on computer press F2 and make CD/DVD Drive the first on the Boot list.. Then save settings..)
Wait for the blue screen to finish loading..
Delete the partition and install windows on the unformat space..
Format it as NFTS (select quick if u are in a hurry, but i doesnt recommend doing so..
Then just follow the instructions on the screen until finishing installing windows..
If your sound, wireless and stuff like that doesnt work after formatting insert the drivers cd i mentioned in the beginning and install its contents..

How to re-format Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop

If you want to completely erase all data on your hard drive, and start with a fresh installation of Windows, the process is pretty simple. Boot to you Windows Media Disc, delete the existing Windows Partition (Normally the 1st NTFS partition) then create a new NTFS partition, format it, then install WIndows to that partition. After the Windows installation completes, then install the drivers (Normally in this order:)
    Desktop system Software (Dell Specific)
    Wireless (If Equipped)
    Touchpad (If Equipped)
    Card reader (If Equipped)

    Reformat PC

once you format and get to the screen where you're prompted to install xp, just make sure that you type a number that's half the size of your drive. format the first, do the installation and don't worry about the second one until needed.

when installing the second O/S, just pick the remaining space that's probably not partitioned, partition it, format and install.

It should take care of the boot.ini entries automatically for ya.

How do i reformate my laptop

Most laptops havew a 'hiddn' partitionon the hard disk where the 'raw' operating system lives .. this partition contains all the software needed to recover from a crash ..

So DO NOT format your disk UNLESS you have the Dell Windows CD and the Dell Drivers CD ..otherwise your laptop may never work again ..

To get into the hidden partition, you hold typically hold down the Ctrl and 'F11' key (or some other combo = check you manual for 'system restore') during power-up .. this will give you a choice of doing a 'clean' re-install .. (which will reformat the USER area of the disk).
