Won't start cranks and gets fuel past the fuel filter but no pressure from then fuel pressure check
John,
I saw and read your 3 posts on the subject.
When the engine shuts down unexpectedly (or doesn't start), are you sure the fuel pump is getting power and can you hear it humming?
Reason I say this, is I saw you mention about the previous wire break and repair of that.
If you verify the fuel pump is running, but no pressure to the fuel rail, (and assuming the fuel filter is good, and if newly replaced, is installed in the correct flow direction), then it can be 2 possibilities.
First, look up the specs for the fuel pressure required for the vehicle. I had a 98 Chevy that required a minimum of 65 PSI, but my pump topped out at 57 PSI and I suffered the same issues.
It is vital that you check the fuel pressure with an accurate fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the schrader valve on the fuel rail.
Without an accurate pressure measurement, you are shooting in the dark. Just hearing it humming/pumping is not enough.
The other possibility, (if the pump is putting out the required proper pressure) is that you may have a restricted or faulty fuel pressure regulator, which should be located near the fuel rail.
Usually there is a check valve in in near the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. There is a schrader valve you can hook up a fuel pressure guage to test on the regulator too.
