I can see the drives but they have red circle with a diagonal line across them. and it comes back with that i don't have permision to access them. however I am the highest level admin on the pc.

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

Hi, I have looked at the devices in the control panel, and none of them are showing an exclaimation mark. I do have the ability to allow a remote user to see my desktop if you are interested in this problem. Using ISL Light.

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

You need to download the client http://www.isllight.co.uk/en/ , then I need to be able to give you a code, so are you on MSN?

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

have you downloaded the isl light client?

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

    enter the following code 1016527

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

    1016527

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

You should have loaded theclient (orange screen) and then enter this new code 1014733

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

the connection was lost try this new code 680559

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

the ISl program seems to be having a problem, where are you based USA? yes Nortons is intalled and running

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

No I didn't add any other items, the stinger program is still going no erros so far

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

When I try to open a cd it says I don't have sufficient permissions to perform the action. Same for a USB drive

  • volvoman Nov 11, 2007

    ok will do,

I will need to close down once the scan is finished, thanks for now...

  • volvoman Nov 12, 2007

Hi there, I did finish the stinger run through, it didn't find anything. I restarted in safe mode and heh presto, the drives are usable. Presumably then there must be a program causing it. Do you think it might be Nortons blocking the use of the drives?

  • volvoman Nov 12, 2007

I just used MSconfig and disabled everything in the bootup, however the drives were still unusable. Does that exclude Nrtons then? It would appear from that, that it must be windows itself, or does it.?

  • volvoman Nov 12, 2007

not sure, however I do not have the disk , as I downloaded it from their website directly.. I will check to see if I kept the downloaded files, and if so I will un install it to see.

I wouldnt put it past it....Norton really sux....if you have the cd try disconnecting the internet, uninstall norton and restart pc, if problem is gone it was norton, if not something else is causeing it, try msconfig, click on start up tab, and disable prog that dont need to be there.

  • cory casper
    cory casper Nov 12, 2007

4GB Attache flash drive says it's locked.

Plug in the stick. wait for it to come up on the desktop then click on it once. (do not open it).
From the file menu select "Get Info"
In the panel that opens up you will see a row of coloured squares. Underneath is a checkbox marked "Locked"
Is it empty or ticked?
If it's ticked, untick and see what happens in disk utility. If it's not ticked that then would appear to be a problem with the stick.
For what it's worth, I did a google on this stick and found that there are numerous posts about it becoming read only on Vista, so it may well be a problem with the manufacturer.
