You have a bad picture tube, or perhaps a picture tube drive problem.. To see what is bad, remove the front speaker grill under the screen in the front. Remove the screws that hold on the board that covers the front. Insidfe this set, WITH THE TV SET UNPLUGGED< Locate which one of the tubes is the blue one. Gently pull off the board from the end of the picture tube and swap it with the green tube right next to it. The green tube is always the middle tube. If the blue comes up again, then the blue tube is bad and you will most likely be better off to buy a new TV set. If the green comes up as the bright one, swap back the boards, call a tech and tell them there is a CRT driver board , or an RGB drive problem. This should not cost you an arm and a leg to get repaired. Good Luck, and let us know how you make out with the repair of this TV set.

Turn on the big screen sony tv, but fades to blue

You probably have a bad BLUE CRT. Due to the cost and the length of time it would take to repair, I would not invest the money into it. It would require a Qualified Service Person to come to your home and remove the BLUE CRT assembly and send it back to SONY to be rebuilt. Estimated cost would be around 800.00. I would check prices of a replacement set.
I hope this helps,

Screen fades to blue.

The Blue SCREEN setting is too high. These adjustments are located inside the TV behind the front panel. There are two screws behind covers and then a wooden panel to remove to access the adjustments. The leftmost set are for BLUE, the middle are GREEN, and the right are RED. The top row are FOCUS and the bottom are SCREEN. Focus will focus/unfocus the tube and Screen will adjust the power of that tube (there are 3 tubes, one for each color). If Screen is adjusted too high, horizontal lines will appear (my TV had red lines, but I played around with the knobs and saw that it could happen on any of the colors). Additionally, if SCREEN is set even higher than that, the tube could go so high that it turns the whole screen that color (in your case, blue). If this happens the TV will shut down, probably due to either overheating or overvolting. To fix this issue, turn the appropriate SCREEN dial down until the lines go away. In your case, you want to turn the lower left dial down. Don't turn it too far down, if you turn it more than necessary the TV can give you an AKB error (noted by the STANDBY light flashing a sequence of 5 blinks).

FADING TO BLUE SCREEN

Sounds like you have a problem with the blue gun in your picture tube or its drive circuit. You might remove the back cover and gently tap on the neck of the picture tube using a plastic screwdriver handle while watching the screen in a mirrow. If the picture flashes back on or on and off then the picture tube is the problem. If this is a projection tv you have three separate tubes : red, green & blue. you'd need to tap the blut one.Gently!!!! Stargazer
