Unlock a keyboard? Do you mean your e machine is locked? If the keyboard is not working get a generic ps2 keyboard at a local goodwill for a few bucks. First though check the pins on that round connector and make sure they are not bent.
I have never heard of a keyboard for emachine computers ever, ever having a lock. For what it is worth I have been fixing computers since 1993. Machines is a low cost consumer box without much in the way of bells and whistles but a lot of bloatware.

Use an older keyboard on a newer computer? My wife likes the feel of the old one.

why not buy a real keyboard. for USB?
vast types, even for $8.
hp what you never side what HP puter.??
hp made them for 33 years, 1984 to now.
endless.
my guess newer HP, like 10 years or newer
and has USB ports
then you found a USB to PS/2 adaptor (vast types exist)
but many dont work. right.
btw this is classic failure from 1999 to to now.
endless posts world wide,,,
the trouble is the PS2 keyboard, send commands very different that USB does.
Try this go to bios and turn on legacy USB>
maybe it can see he keyboad at boot (bios sees t first)
then BIOS passes this discovery to windows 10..
ive not touched or seen a PS2 keyboard, in years.
like year 2000?> 18 long years ago.
im old. worked them all.
PS/2 >>>>>adaptor >>>> USB modern system.
the adaptor must do 2 things, send power correctly to the KBD.
then translate PS/2 sings to USB sigs.
then BIOS needs to understand plug and play IDs from PS2
if missing IDs, or garbled, its born dead.

good luck there.
btw your pc is not PS2 certified so....

How do I unlock the keyboard of IBM Selectric III???

The Selectric typewriter has several "interlocks" that can cause the keyboard to be locked. When you turn the machine off there is a mechanism that locks the keyboard. When you turn it on the part should move and unlock the keyboard. Sometimes this part sticks and the keyboard will remain locked. When you type any character the keyboard is locked to prevent two keys trying to type at the same time. The machine locks and unlocks very fast. One keys is locked in and prevents others from working. try turning on the machine and hitting every key just a little bit harder and see if it then types. When you shift, as the ball is turning the keyboard is locked temporarily so it won't attempt to type as the ball is turning as that would damage the machine. Sometimes the shift mechanism can cause the keyboard to remain licked as the shift may not have finished it's complete cycle. Also, the return mechanism locks the keyboard temporarily when the carrier is returning to prevent you from typing when the carrier is moving backwards. Only a qualified technician can resolve those issues.

Unlock keyboard

Well you may have a bigger problem than a locked keyboard. If you tried to shut down all your programs and reboot, and if you could reboot as someone else to see if it it a locked keyboard. By rebooting the keyboard should auto unlock however if your using a wireless keyboard (check your batteries), and finally on this machine there is a problem with using USB keyboards, try to unplug the USB keyboard then waiting 10 seconds, then plug it into a different USB port, this will reset the keyboard in some cases, but it may be necessary for you to reload the keyboard driver. Okay you say how do you do that without the keyboard? Well if your mouse is working go to START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ACCESSIBILITY>ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD and use your mouse to reload the USB keyboard driver and see if that fixes your problem.
Good luck!

Locked Keyboard

Goto control panel - keyboard. See if U can unlock it from there. Else goto control panel- system and uninstall keyboard, then "action" scan for changes and reinstall the keyboard. Normally the cd's that come with the keyboard have the programs to lock them out. Recommend... don't install the lockout program.
