Try this. First try another memory card. This will help work out if it is a camera or a memory card issue. Remove the card and take a very close look at the metal contacts on it. Your looking for dirt or damage like scratches or missing metal. Next using a light, look inside the slot the card fits into for loose dirt or lint. Connect the memory card to your computer/laptop and check the card registers on there. You could also try re-formatting the card to clear it and reset it to factory level.
Transfer the desired data from the memory card.
Format the memory card in the computer a low-level formatting
Format the card in the camera.
If the situation persists - replace the card.
The key here is to not apply "excessive" pressure but using the palm of your hand apply gentle pressure and see if you are able to push the lens back in. Again I stress the word "GENTLE" and not brute force.
sounds like the focus and (Optical Image Stabilization)drive motors are bound or broken, sadly this normaly means new camera, unless there are no marks on the case and they wouldn't think that it had been dropped or gotten wet, well ya know, they will normaly repair or replace it as long as it is due to manufacture defect.
