Have you tested the motor without load? If it spins outside of the dremel then there is probably a clog or gunk in the spindle of the bit connector keeping it from spinning. If it doesn't spin, then the motor is shot.

SOURCE: My Dremel tool motor still works but shaft won't turn?

Here's the email from I got from Dremel (in my case the flex coupling broke):
Inside the tool is a flex coupling and spline driver.

The flex coupling is # 2615294309 and the price is $ 1.25.
This is the hollow plastic sleeve about 1" long with grooves on the
inside, that goes between the motor shaft and the output shaft.

The spline driver is # 2615294308 at $ 1.00.
Spline driver sits on the direct end of the motor shaft. The flex
coupling sits over the spline driver. Spline driver is about 1/4",
hard plastic with grooves on the outside.

Total shipping for orders under $ 5.00 is $ 2.50. Orders over $

SOURCE: I was working with the dremel and it shut down and

My dremel started doing that too. If I rubbed the sanding drum along a piece of wood, it would start up again. I think the brushes and the copper armature get glazed over with non conductive dust and possibly insulation smoke which disconnects it enough to stall out. Change the brushes to the new ones in the kit. After a year of heavy use mine slowwed down to about 300 rpm and then died. A very nice tool but I prefer the Makita which is about three times this size just because it is longer lived.

SOURCE: Tried to replace motor brush on dremel. One brush

I had to completely dismantle my dremel because both brushes were stuck. Had to basically break them apart because they were seized solid in there.

No they don't have them on the shelf in Walmart. If they did I wouldn't be here looking myself.

How can i test if it's brushes or speed switch fault on Piggin Dremel

Problem sounds like the switch. Easy to replace and a lot cheaper than a new Dremel. One other thing comes to mind. Blow out the Dremel with compressed air. I could be to dusty and overheating.

Bosch 4000 table saw motor

My Bosch 4000 froze up. Turns out to be the rear bearing. Replaced the bearing "6200ZZ" at the brush end. Works great now. If you are mechanically inclined, you may need a press to remove and install the bearing quickly.

How do i know if my dremel brushes are worn

A problem I've found with Dremel and others there's a polarity issue with them---if you use a lead that is not polarized it drives the electronics & electronic speed control nuts if not burn it out---polarity is that the lead has one wide blade on the plug so it will not go in the receptical but only one way & the same on the receptical end. This doesn't mean that the problem but if it's cooked you should get another one---if the price is heavy---check with dremel for diagram/schematic for parts---they may even have a trouble shooting section----from here can't really get a handle on this cause it's not in my hands to check(VOM)---you also could have bearing problems causing the armature to rub on the fields---some tools change the 120ACV input to dc via bridge rectifier so actually the motor is DC---I could go on for a long time listing issues you could have due to so many variables of these machines---best I can do from here for now

Dremel 4200 stopped working

No.. the issue issue is the switch inside. when your Dremel 4200 stop working, press firmly the grey area between the speed selector and the brush housing. I think this a defect in the design of the 4200. 9f840401-fb84-4f7b-8c68-75a9be3ceb9e.jpg

How to open the Dremel 4000 black brush cap (without slot) ?

I just encountered the same challenge

I opened the 5 x T15 torx screws, pulled the tool very slowly apart and the black caps poped out together with springs and brushes (whats left of them).
My advice is not to try and pry them out as they will break. The inner "ring" is way too big to pop out without being damaged.

After the tool is opened, you can replace the brushes and carefully position all back and while holding both of the caps on the springs, close the tool and screw it back together.

Hope it helps

New dremel 4000 used very little is missing the brushes and whatever else goes in the brush hole. found the cap laying on the table with no other parts. what do I need to replace???

Dremel has all their replacement parts right on the shelf at walmart, brushes, caps, chucks, the works. You found the cap, the brush is a little carbon square attached to a wire with a spring on it. Real simple. Buy a pair and get it fixed up. My favorite tool.

Do Dremel 4000 tools overheat and stop running? Is there a reset switch?

On a 4000 there is a thermal fuse at the base of the motor from the brush housing. They are cheap to replace. these are replacing fuses on alot of electronic devices. the fuse is a microtemp g7f01 110c.

Hi, My drill(Dremel) just doesn't turn on. The sliding switch moves, but nothing happens. The switch moves losley too. It seems dead! I wasn't present when it broke. I do not know any details on what...

With the machine unplugged, check the motor brushes. They may be worn.

I have not had success doing any other repairs to the motor part of a Dremel. I do know they have a service center. Go here for more info:

How to replace brushes?

On either side of the switch is a black disk with a notch small enough for a small screwdriver. Unscrew it and take it off to expose the spring. Gently pull the spring out and the brush should be attached. If you encounter resistance, then you may disconnect the spring from the brush. If this happens then push the spring back in and hope you catch the brush; if this does not work, then get creative or take the whole thing apart to get to it. After that, just put the new brushes in and recap.
