Hard drive is fine. You don't have windows installed if you did then the partition got formatted by accident. You need to boot from a windows cd or the recovery disc that came with the laptop if you don't have any of these then you can get one online relatively cheap or you can go to Wal Mart or Best Buy and buy one.

Operating system not found

hi goodner,

getting the error "operating system not found" means that the hard drive where the Operating System is installed (i.e. Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), Cannot be found by you BIOS upon the boot sequence.

When you turn the PC/Laptop, you normal see a screen that flashes flashes with screen that displays the ff:

Primary Master:
Primary Slave:
Secondary Master:
Secondary Slave:

The Primary master should have a value right next to it. If not, either the hard drive is faulty and needs replacement, cable is loose,

If you have a value to it and stil gets the same error the operating is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.

Hi,
I think that the operating has gone corrupt and needs to be reinstalled. First, make sure that your PC can read the hard disk in BIOS (at boot up, press F2 to enter BIOS and check "Drive Configuration). You should be able to find the hard drive (as well as CD/DVD ROM) here. If not check the hard disk cables etc. At boot up, you may also press F12 for Boot Menu and select the primary hard disk for booting up the PC.
Secondly, boot the PC from CD ROM, Delete the partitions and make fresh partitions for installation of the operating system. You may also add the hard disk of your PC to another PC (as slave) and delete all the partitions from the operating system and make fresh partitions. Place the hard back into your PC and proceed with installation.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Flashing cursor - HP 6710b vista laptop Hi, Ive got a HP 6710b laptop with a flashing cursor and a black screen. Tried the vista repair disc to restore and do a a startup repair and reset bios to...

Hi yancart,

I see that you are having issue booting into windows on your machine and that you are getting black screen and a blinking cursor.

The issue you are experiencing can be a Hard Drive issue not being detected on the machine or possible something else is wrong with the system to be able findo ut we try doind some steps to check the machine.

>First turn the Machine OFF.

>Turn the Machine ON again then Keep on tapping F12 on your system to boot into the Boot Menu, or if it shows on the screen Press F11 Boot Menu then you should press F11 if your system uses F11 but in regular machine F12 is the Boot Menu.

>Once you have the Boot Menu Screen it should give you options from your Hard Drive to the DVD drive on your machine.

> Select you Hard Drive it should be the first on the list highlighted in Blue then press Enter on it to boot into your Hard Drive.

>Check if this will boot into your Hard Drive if it does not then, possible your Hard Drive is nto detected.

>If you can try to reseat your Hard Drvie from the machine just to see if it went loose, then try restarting the system again and see if it will boot into windows.

>If still the system will still not boot into windows then try setting the BIOS to defaults then restart the machine agian if still the issue is the same then most probably your Hard drive may need replacing.

Oprating system not found on my toshiba satelitte m35-s359

You typically get that message when the hard drive has crashed or if you're lucky there is a cd in the laptop.

Did you have any important information stored on the laptop like pictures and documents?

My 7Y250MO hard drive starts clicking and after a few seconds the system locks up only fixed by powering down and restarting.

Try doing the self-test for the hard drive. It could be a sign of hard drive failure. Just boot to BIOS go under diagnostics then select Primary Hard-drive Self Test. In hp notebooks, we use f10 after turning it on to boot into bios. Ask your computer manufacturer how to boot to BIOS. If you're Hard drive passed the test you might want to try re-installing the operating system. It could be a sign of Windows crashing. If you're Hard drive failed. There you go. You have to replace the hard drive. Hope this helps.

How to activate my IBM recovery system F11?

Usually you have to have the recovery CD in the cd drive. In regualr Desktop machines, hitting F11 will go into the boot options menu allowing you to choose from booting to a network, through USB or CD drive or floppy.

On your laptop it may be set to load from cd but with no cd, no boot.

If its freezing alot you may be having a heating problem. If you suspect a Hard drive problem, run a disk check by double clicking " My computer" , right click on C:/ drive and click " properties" open the " Tools" tab and go to disk check and select all the options. It will say that it will do it on system restart. Do this and see if any errors come up.
