A friend recharged this iPod with no problem on a Sony 01CFCS1SiP so would not seem to be a glitch in the iPod
SOURCE: Time Display
A-ha! Those manuals sure do come in handy sometimes. I found the solution. In addition to functioning as a snooze button for delaying the alarm, the snooze button is also a brightness button for the time. If you press snooze one time it changes the time brightness from bright to dim, press it again and it goes from dim to motion sensitive only, press it again and it returns to bright.
I just tried this and resolved my problem. I hope it helps you as well.
Enjoy!
