what does it show on the front screen? does it still receive calls or vibrate?

My charger was dead when i took it out of the box, I now charge via usb on computer< Have you tried this?

Keep the home and power button pressed for 10 seconds, then, leave power and keep the home button pressed...shud be able to see the charging cable logo...then restore it...

Try hold the Power and Home buttons, it should boot up and show the itunes screen, plug in your phone charger first

go to the closest apple store and tell them the problem they will either fix it or give you a replacement

If your phone does not even turn on when you plug in your charger, open up your iPhone and make sure connector #4 is plugged in. If your phone turns on with a charger but turns off after you disconnect the charger, replace your battery. You can find batteries for the iPhone 3g by clicking here -> iPhone 3G Battery Replacement
