I have emachine model el1358g-51w. When turning pc on the monitor shuts down. I need to unplug and replug the power cable to monitor and it turns on again. I've tried replacing the power cable and cleaning the computer tower of dust, all plug in cords seem good in the pc. Any suggestions what could be the problem?
Hi. If you are using the on board graphics (the blue connector for the monitor), it sounds like a video driver issue. Try updating the graphics driver. I think that model has geforce graphics so there should be a small NVIDIA icon (hover the pointer over the icons to find nvidia one. Don't forget to click the small triangle next to the icons to show hidden ones) down by the time on your desktop. In there, you should find an update option.
The model number you gave did not include a monitor. Can you give details about the monitor itself like manufacturer and model number? Is the monitor an older style big and deep or an LCD panel style? The symptom you describe seems typical of some kind of electrical protection disconnecting power to the monitor same way as a circuit breaker in your house.

I understand that your cpu is not turning on and the repairer confirmed that it is the issue with the mother board. I suggest you to please check the smps fan spinning or not. If its spinning then then the issue could be with the mother board. If not try changing the power cables.
Next check whether your cd rom light is glowing. Even if there is an issue with the mother board, as the power is supplied by the smps the light should glow if the light is not glowing its clear that something must be wrong with smps.
Please provide us the result of the above steps so that I could assist you further.

Hello,
It sounds as if you are missing the power cord for the monitor. If the cord did not come with your monitor/PC, you can pick one up at any Radio Shack or electronics store. If you could forward me your eMachine model number as well as the monitor model number, I will see if I can better solve this for you without you having to spend anymore money.
Best Regards,

You may be dealing with bad or overheating with your processor or memory. If possible, try swapping out your memory chips to see if that does the trick. If not, you will have to try swapping out the processor (much less likely you'll be able to swing that).
