My Philips TV 30PF9946 is less than 3 years old but it is broken suddenly. No picture and No sound. The power LED (red and green) comes on without any problem. I contacted Philips tech service and they gave me the contact of local TV repair store. I brought the TV to the dealer and waited for 2 weeks to get the result of diagnosis. The dealer told me that I would have to pay $4,000 to have my TV repaired. They said that they would need to replace an inverter, which will cost them almost $4,000. I purchased it at $2,000 about 3 years ago. Unreal!! If you have a solution, I would like to know. Thank you.
If you sure with the problem, try to get the part nunber from the service or the costumer service. Try to find that part on the net, or a service who repear inverters. I have a problem like this with my laptop, I bought a part from ebay, and I also have a service phone nunber to fix that inverter localy.
I have the same problem here with my Philips 30PF9946/37
I'm not sure this can be diagnosed as an inverter failure, unless there is a another inverter board in there I'm not aware of. The only inverter I found (actually two) in this unit is the pair of KLS300A1 inverters which drive the CCFL tubes.
Since I personally get a green power and light AND the CCFL backlight comes on, it seems unlikely that the inverters have failed.
Would love to hear from anyone who can ident the failure in these units - there's certainly a LOT of these around that have failed in exactly the same way.

Have you fixed it or gotten rid of it yet? Because if not, I have a solution for you. I had the exact same problem and TV as you, and I fixed mine by leaning it forward. I think there may be a leveling safety feature for the screen, and it gets out of wack. So maybe try leaning it back and forward until you find the sweet spot.

I use this tv for a PC monitor, HD satellite viewing, and XBOX 360. I was having intermittent problems with the HDMI audio bleeding in to the other inputs. Sometimes if for instance I turned on the PC, I could hear the audio from the HDMI output on the satellite receiver through the TV speakers. Other times, I might just hear a crackle in the audio when in PC mode. If I switched back and forth between HDMI and PC inputs a couple of times, both issues would go away. I tell this just as background to what happened next. Since I have my PC hooked to the VGA input on the TV, I have been forced to manually switch the HDMI input from the Satellite receiver to my XBOX 360. (Sorry, I was too cheap to buy the $100 switch). Anyway, I usuall make this switch hot (TV on, Satellite receiver on, but XBOX off. This system although a pain, was working until yesterday. I was watching HD satellite, when I decided to play XBOX. I switched the HDMI cable, but when I turned the XBOX on, it wouldn't start up. I immediately assumed my XBOX had crapped out , but when I switche the HDMI cable back to the satellite, the TV would not recognize the signal. I have since tried the XBOX and satellite on another tv with HDMI, and both still work fine. I am thinking that some sort of switch in the tv has gone out, but I don't know. Should I just junk this TV for a new 1080P? My problem with doing that is that I use PIP with the PC on one side, and HDMI on the other. This tv does that, but I can't find another tv that does.
