I had this problem a ways back on a Dell. I finally found out the way to "clear" the on-board memory. First, turn off the computer/notebook. Next, remove the power cord. Now, remove the battery. Now here comes the critical part - Press down on the start button and hold it down for at least 30 seconds. What this does is drain any "power" that may be lurking in your machine. After the 30 seconds is up. re-insert the battery, then replace the power cord. Now click on the Start button and your machine should boot up properly. If not, find a reputable computer shop and take it in. Get an estimate and if it is too high think about buying a new machine and a "transfer" cable (sort of like the cable that goes into the back of your DSL modem), and you can transfer the data from the old machine to the new. MAKE SURE THAT YOU LET THE STORE KNOW THE CABLE IS TO BE USED BETWEEN COMPUTERS!
The only other way you can transfer the data from the old drive to the new computer is to get an HDD adapter for one of the slots on the new computer and mount the old HD into the adapter and place it in the expansion slot.
Good luck.

Hi,
If repairing the XP installation is not solving your problem, you can try a clean install by formating your drive and re-installing XP.

i have had one of these myself... this pc suffers from various problems, mostly motherboard. Your specific problem has happened to a couple of friends, both filled their drives up so much that it "blue screened" We all know blue screen is often terminal. Your machine is getting on now. clear your drive up from DOS and windows ( delete unneeded files at start up, not through windows if possible.

My hp touchsmart 300 hard drive went out i got another hard drive but it needs to be formatted and pratitioned but i cant figure out how to do that

  • Start the computer in Command Prompt Mode. Type "FDISK." The partition window will appear with menu options. Enter 5 if you're partitioning a second drive, and select the drive; otherwise, skip to the next step. Enter 1 (Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive). Enter 2 (Create Extended DOS) to create a partition. Enter N when the program asks if you want to use the maximum available size. Designate the amount of disk space to allocate to the second partition (the partition will be assigned the next drive letter) Type a name for the new partition and press Enter. The partition menu will appear. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to create additional partitions. Press Esc to exit the partition command. Format the newly created partitions

Sleep Mode Lockup on Dell Inspirion 530 w/ Vista

Try hitting the "Windows" key on your keyboard to bring it out of sleep mode. The "Windows" key is generally found on the bottom row of the keyboard, near the Alt and Ctrl keys, and it has no letters on it, just the Windows logo. That key brings my Windows Vista machines out of sleep mode when other keys won't.

As for the power button, anytime you need to force a computer to turn off, you can press and hold the power button to do so. Usually, you need to hold the power button for 5-10 seconds and it will shut down. Use this option with caution, as it turns the computer off without running through the shutdown process and can cause you to lose data.

    Hope this helps.

How to install win xp sp2 from cd on hp 530 laptop

1 - Place CD in the Drive
2 - Restart PC and go into Bios by pressing Del, F2 or whatever instruction the start up screen says.

3 - Go to Boot configuration and set it to Boot from CD
    4 - Save and Exit
5 - Follow onscreen instructions untill you get to the Windows install screen.
6 - You may have to create a partition (Drive Letter) on your hard drive if nothing was there before, you can assign as much hard drive space as you want to this. If your not sure just use all the space available. This will be your C drive.
7 - Pick the drive you just created and install windows on it using the on screen menu. It will ask you if to format the drive, say yes and use NTFS not FAT as NTFS has more features.
8 - Just say yes to all questions asked after this point.

When windows is installed it will ask you for a CD key and to activate by going on the net, I'm afraid I can't help you with this.
