My HP 530 won't get out of dos mode Just blinks off and ask what mode I wanna start in.
I had this problem a ways back on a Dell. I finally found out the way to "clear" the on-board memory. First, turn off the computer/notebook. Next, remove the power cord. Now, remove the battery. Now here comes the critical part - Press down on the start button and hold it down for at least 30 seconds. What this does is drain any "power" that may be lurking in your machine. After the 30 seconds is up. re-insert the battery, then replace the power cord. Now click on the Start button and your machine should boot up properly. If not, find a reputable computer shop and take it in. Get an estimate and if it is too high think about buying a new machine and a "transfer" cable (sort of like the cable that goes into the back of your DSL modem), and you can transfer the data from the old machine to the new. MAKE SURE THAT YOU LET THE STORE KNOW THE CABLE IS TO BE USED BETWEEN COMPUTERS!
The only other way you can transfer the data from the old drive to the new computer is to get an HDD adapter for one of the slots on the new computer and mount the old HD into the adapter and place it in the expansion slot.
Good luck.

Hi,
If repairing the XP installation is not solving your problem, you can try a clean install by formating your drive and re-installing XP.
