Yes, these HC cards require a different reader, than traditional SD cards. The builtin one on the laptop probably doesn't support them, since any SD card above 2gb is technically considered an HC SD card. so my advice is to go to a cheap computer parts supplier, and see if they have a reader that will work for HC SD Cards.
DAMN THE MAKERS OF FLASH MEMORY FOR BEING SO COMPLEX!!!!

Try to put your sd card to the slot, and check device manager.
check if there is yellow question mark on the device manager.
if it is, it's driver problem, just update the driver.
if not, try with another sd card and if this still not working, it's your sd card slot has problem.

Hi Lofatman,
If this problem happens with the memory card when its in either slot 1 or slot 2
I suggest you clean the contacts of the memory card.
If it just happens when you have in Slot 1 or Slot 2 only,
Go to Radio Shack and get a Can of contact cleaner that has a Brush built into the Spray nozzle.
if you do not have success with that, you must open the PS2 case, and Remove the Controler ports and clean up the whole controller port assembly.
If that doesn't work, and your frustrated and not Electronically skilled enough to do this. I can get the PS2 in tip top shape, for $32 and that includes return shipping. I run the website www.playstationclinic.com
This should put you in business.
