Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

4 Answers

Jumbled Numbers/Pixels So I haven't used my TI-83 in about 2-3 years.  I went to use it and the screen was showing only portions of the numbers and some were illegible.  I replaced both of the batteries (AAA and the little guy) and it still won't work.  I just get weird little lines/dots/halves of numbers all over the whole screen.  Any ideas?

So I have the same problem sort of. Does the best solution, (opening the calculator up and removing the protective metal) actually work? I'd like to know if it really did for sure before doing it myself.

Yep, same ****. Had mine for 5 did the same thing last summer (after going unused for about 2 years) and some nerdy kid in my class did something to fix it, but now the problem is back. Anything? I would hate to buy a new calculator for just 5 more weeks of class.

I had the same problem. I tried to remove the protective metal covering did not work. I did find that if you open it the case and clean the contacts on back of the screen it resolved the issue. For how long I do not know.

I do not have Instructions or a Manual describing how to connect to the TV or which wires to use. And where is the battery door? The label says it requires 2 AAA batteries. Can you help this 83 year old senior Lady?

Somone else posted this solution on a different thread and it worked for myself. You turn the calculator on. then repeat "2nd up arrow" to get the darkest setting. let the calculator sit for awhile on the darkest setting. Then clear the screen with the "clear" and turn it back to regular contrast settings. I had to repeat this twice but it now works fine.

You can't simply enter 7x+9=30 into the calculator, there is a way to calculate what the x is but its been a few years since I've done these..

My ti 83 calculator turns on but nothing shows

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen, especially when the batteries are changed, so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

Ti-83 plus silver edition. calc won't turn on.

Well, if screen shows the RAM CLEARED message, that means your calculator is working. Just press the [CLEAR] key, message will be erased and you are ready to crunch numbers.

Hope it helps.

Yes you can use it, here is the formula: Y= V(t+ (i/c))^(tc) V=amount put in, t=time, i=intrest rate, c= amount of times it is compounded.
(I know this because I have a TI-83 calculator)
