You're talking about the keyboard connector on the laptop's motherboard, that the ribbon cable attaches to, or an external keyboard?

How to hook up keyboard to my dell Inspiron 530

Keyboard come with two different connection options these days. The old PS2-style (circular with ~5 pins) port are less common on current machines these days. The Dell Inspiron 530 is one of them; you need a USB keyboard or a PS2 to USB adapter. This adapter, http://www.amazon.com/Adesso-Adapter-connects-connectors-ADP-PU21/dp/B00008ZPED , is an example of how you would connect your old keyboard to your new computer. There are USB ports on the front and back of the tower.

If you bought the computer new, it should have come with a USB keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 9300 Vertical lines

Try re-seating and cleaning, the connection between the display and the Motherboard, (Electronics cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, be sure not to leave any of the cotton fuzz on the connectors.) It will be below the keyboard. If that doesn't result in any improvement, the display will probably need replacing. You can find the complete tear-down guide here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9300/sm/index.htm

Plug in a USB keyboard to your laptop and test the spacebar on it. If it works, then the laptop keyboard may be bad.

Try this:
1. You may just need to reseat the keyboard. In other words, disconnect it from the motherboard and then reconnect it to see if it fixes your problem.

How to:

2. If step one doesn't work then buy a new keyboard and install it.

I bought a dell inspiron 1501 frm a garage sale and i cnt get into the hdd password or in fact anything can some1 plze help me?????

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer. Remove the battery from the computer. Open the display 180 degrees until it lies flat on your work surface. With a small screwdriver, gently pry up the right-hand side of the hinge cover. Gently remove the hinge cover moving from right to left. Remove the 2 screws at the top of the keyboard. Lift the keyboard up and hold it up and slightly forward so you can access the keyboard connector. Lift the latch on the connector and slide the cable out. Use a small screwdriver to remove the coin-cell battery. Wait a minute or so and replace the battery, keyboard, and hinge cover by reversing the removal process. Your BIOS password should now be cleared.

Be careful to ensure that the hinge cover is properly seated before attempting to close the display as it is easily damaged.
