I lowered the spacer (on the threaded rod) and got enough drop in the upper wheel to fit the blade.

SOURCE: upper wheel on a model 28-682 bandsaw. How do you adjust it.

With saw unpluged!!!!! open top wheel gaurd.Spin wheel by hand while moving the adjuster knob on back of the machine. As you turn both at the same time the blade will trac either the front or back of the wheel. Move the knob (while spinning the wheel) until the blade is tracking in the middle of the tire. (rubber strip around the wheel)

ALL BAND SAWS HAVE AN ADJUSTMENT FOR THE BLADE TRAVEL WHEN I WOULD REPLACE MINE I WOULD ROTATE THE TOP WHEEL BY HAND TO CHECK THE ALIGNMENTAND WATCH WEHICH WAY THE BLADE STARTS TO TRAVEL THERE SHOULD BE AN ADJUSTMENT ON THE TOP WHEEL THAT TILTS THE WHEEL IN OR OUT JUST A TINY TURN WILL MAKE A BIG CHANGE

there should be an adjustment knob on the back that changes the angle of the top wheel and this will center the blade so it stays on. I do this by jogging the saw on and off while I adjust it. hope this helps you

Sounds like you have a saw with defective castings. Either cast out-of-true or deflect under pressure.

Bandsaw blade is. Not staying straight
Whether a 2 wheel or 3 wheel bandsaw it is more of a hobby to check, care for, adjust and use than any other type of saw.

Assuming the wheels, bearings and guides are all in good condition, the common mistake is to adjust the blade tension so tight it is distorting the casing and wheel geometry, making it impossible to properly adjust the blade tracking.

The blade won't stay on even though I have it on properly it comes right off when I turn it on
I have no experience of portable bandsaws but do have some experience of workshop bandsaws.

One wheel is generally movable in order to "steer" the blade and careful adjustment is needed with the blade guides retracted until the blade runs full on the wheels. The blade guides are then brought back to prevent the pressure against the work from pushing the blade off the wheels.

Tire comes off top wheel almost all the time. Tire comes off bottem wheel sometimes. Don't know how to set up this saw.
My jet bandsaw did same thing only fix was new tires .Tires are supposed to be tite on wheel .get wood dowels between tire and wheel and roll new tire onto wheel. If desperate could glue on with weather strip adhesive.put bandsaw blade on both tires spin wheels with power off till blade is running in center of wheel by adjusting top wheel in or out. When done adjust blade guides to blade and bearings to back of blade .This is top and bottom of cutting area

Saw blade jumpes off at motor pulley on horizontal band saw
It is probably not tracking. you need to back off the guides, get the blade to track in the center of the tire by hand. Then torque it up a bit till it twangs, Then pull the guides up the blade and just touch it, don't push it at all, the bearings too. This should track and not jump off. If it does, then one of your wheels is out of whack, check them with a straight edge with the blade set. See if they are in line. One of the bearings could be bad. Check it out.

New blade will not stay on top belt
There should be adjustments for tracking the upper wheel. Turn the machine by hand until the tracking is perfect. Check the bearings in both wheels for looseness. Hope this helps!

Top wheel part broke off
I suspect the part you need is 150086 "Upper Wheel Shaft". You can confirm this by checking the exploded diagram for your bandsaw which can be downloaded at http://content.wmhtoolgroup.com/manuals/708115K_man.pdf.

See page 25 for exploded diagram showing wheel shafts, bearings, etc..

It might be worth checking with JET about warranty since I believe that band saw has a 5 year warranty. You can check here for a service center near you.

How do i take off and replace the blade on my berkel bandsaw
There should be a blade tensioning adjustment on the back of the upper wheel. You need to loosen this until the blade is loose, then open both front covers and possibly remove the guard, then install new blade and retension.
Then adjust the tracking and guides as follows:
Before tuning it up, loosen the guides and wheels away and square the table to the tensioned blade. Then follow these steps in order:
  1. First, adjust the upper wheel so the blade is tracking at the center or just to the front of center of the wheel tire. (You can see this with the cover removed, and adjust it with the nut/wing nut in the back).
  2. Now, make sure the blade guides are adjusted so they don't deflect the blade to either side (when looked at from the front), so they contact the blade just behind the gullet of the teeth, but not against the hooked teeth themselves, and are just tight enough to allow the blade to run freely (including the weld). (If your guides are worn and out of flat, you may wish to dress them on a sander before adjusting them against the blade.) Adjust the guides both above and below the table. At this point, ensure that the guide bar moves up and down easily and locks into position without torqueing the guides against the blade.
  3. Finally, adjust the bearings behind the blade, so they just kiss it, and turn freely when you revolve the bandsaw wheel. They will support the back of the blade when pressure is applied against it during a cut, and help immensely to keep the blade tracking straight.
At this point, check the cut by trying to follow a straght line penciled on a board. Some blades will naturally tend to veer slightly on a diagonal, depending on how they are sharpened, and you may have to adjust your fence to compensate for this "drift".
But if you follow the steps outlined above, and have a good sharp blade to begin with, you should be able to split a line.
