Hi, I have a techinika 42-910 that had a problem. I replaced the bad caps on the power board. Now the screen and screen is fine. But i now have a hum that happens when there is more black on the screen. I have played with the backlight settings and the hum pitch changes.

You might have replaced the capacitors, but did you checked the effeciency of the power supply?. That is; line to load regulation? Might not. This is the fault. For most flat panel power supplies are non repairable. It should be replaced as card basis.

Thank you for your answer. So you think its a power board problem and not a backlight rectifer problem then. And no i have not checked the effeciency of the power supply. How would i go about doing this. Is it just put a meter on the output of the board. Again thank you for your help.

Just load a filament type only [not CFL type or other] bulb, at its V+ output; and measure the voltage regulation. Just measure the B+ voltage, before connecting the bulb; and after connecting it. There can be a slight difference in voltage; at about 2.5VDC or so. Keep this condition for at least half an hour, and again check the voltage for any variation. There shouldn't be much. May +/_ 1V; but shouldn't be much more than that. Check the electrolytic capacitor connected across the B+ voltage [smoothing capacitor too]. I suggest to replace it. Check the main input DC voltage, and main smoothing capacitors. If any of these capacitors go DRY, the DC input voltage will be much lower; and so the output from the SMPS too. I'm ready to share my experience to anybody as far as I can. Wish you Good luck Nocolas. google.com/+GopakumarGopalan

You need to check and see if the backlight inverter board is getting the 24vdc from the power supply.

How to fix NS-PCS20 2.0 computer speakers that hum static?

Humming is usually caused by a bad capacitor on the power supply board. Look at the caps on the board, any that are puffed up, burned or leaking (brown at the base) need replacing. Make sure you get the EXACT same capacitors and pay attention to the orientation so you get them back in properly, if you dpn't you will fry them soon as you apply power to the board.

Sanyo DP42740. Backlight comes on to a dark grey screen, No menu or sound, Power button does not work, SN board does have a green light on it, No visible bad caps, I am suspecting the T-Con board????

Eric has been too busy to work on this TV, so I got it from him and am continuing with it. As soon as power is connected to it, the screen glows slightly, but you can only notice it when all other lights are off and the room is dark. But the TV does nothing else. I initially though it was the power supply board and replaced it, same result. I then noticed that there was a faint buzzing or humming sound coming from the X-Sustain board.

Thinking this was finally the problem, I replaced it too. Blast! No go. Ok, so now that we've narrowed it down, it HAS to be the Y-Sustain board Right? I don't think we can afford another board. What is it that fails on these boards? Could I just replace one or two MOSFETs? How do we determine which ones are bad? Thanks for your help.

TV turns on screen is fine. Screen goes black

The problem can be bad caps in the power supply, or the backlight inverter board is bad, depends on how much you know about repairing electronics, you may want to look inside first for bad caps. You can look for replacement boards here: www.shopjimmy.com
But report back what you see inside first so we can you further. My had scrambled picture after warm up, yours will more likely to have this problem later on also. http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LTV-32W3HD/

Screen goes black immediately after astar logo screen comes on

Astar 30" LTV 3001 ....These TV's have a cooling problem that causes premature electrolytic capacitor failure. De-solder and Test all the 2200uF-25v, 3300uF-35v and 1000uF-10v caps in the power supply (center board, back of TV). Use a good LCR meter that will read 3300uF or better, Replace all bad caps with 105c rated caps. If you don't have an LCR meter, replace all the mentioned caps on the PS. If fuse on board is blown, also replace the F9222L regulator IC chip. Mounting a small cooling fan on rear of TV over the PS will help keep your new caps from failing again. This requires holes in the stand bracket and the rear of the TV, power can be supplied from a 14V source near the bottom of the PS board.
