SOURCE: Heater cycles on and of, pool/spa does not reach desired temp

hello, It sounds like you may not be getting circulation thru the heater. Make sure the valves are open to allow water to pass thru the heating system. Some systems use a bypass on the heater so there is not a lot of wear on the coil system in the heater. If it is not circulating it will get too hot and the safety shut down will occure. If you are getting water circulating thru the heater, then the thermocouple or auto start igniter system is not working correctly. It is trying to start and can't then recycles. If the burners are igniting on the startup and then shutting back down you may have a bad control unit or thermal sensor unit. Since the unit is gas have a professional service it for you. Good Luck, RAC

SOURCE: minimax pool heater cuts out at 91 degrees when remotely set for

Check the temp reading on the heater. It is probably set at 91...heater control should be set to 104

SOURCE: Pool Heater Mis-reading Temp.

Your temp sensors are on the heater, a small tube that slides into the water manifold, usually on the left side. On the remote it will be in one of the pipes coming from the pump or the filter. If it is after the heater you should move it to between the filter and heater. It will be a tube that is in the pipe with a stanless steel clamp holding it in place.
To find out wich one it is you will need to remove the remote from the system by takeing the wires that go to it from the wireing inside the heater and wire nuting the wires in the heater together. If the heater runs normal then it is the sensor for the remote if not it is the sensor for the heater. Let me know how you do and if need be we can get a little more specfic for your system. good luck.

SOURCE: My pentair minimax plus 250 M pool heater won't

Hi,
For most pool heaters, if they will not start up in the spring, the problem is corrosion in the wiring somewhere... I would remove and clean all wiring connections and then try. The amount of current is very small and so any bit of corrosion can cause the unit not to work.

It all so could the t-stat again, but you would need to check that with an OHM meter. No continuity when the heater should be on will confirm that the t-stat is bad...

Have Pentair MasterTemp 400 pool heater. Starts but turns off in a few minutes. Start up code 888 then 128 then r=8, product # 460736

A dirty filter can cause low pressure and as a result, cause the heater's pressure switch to turn OFF. A dirty filter can prevent a heater from firing and it can also cause your heater to shut off before warming the water to the desired temperature.

Pentair master temp 250 8 years old. Heater won't start, but display shows Service Heater and the SFS LED on the back of that circuit board is still lit up even though I replaced the Thermal Regulator

At 8 years your SFS sensor could be going bad. Changing the sensor is very easy and not very expensive.
There is another issue that could be causing your SFS to trip, the heat-exchanger inside the heater could be collecting soot for any number of reasons.
Change the sensor first and if your issue is still present call a pro to evaluate and clean your heat-exchanger.

Heater shuts down after 30 sec. get e05 error code replaced the SFS have same problem .

I had same issue yesterday in the field. The sensor was bad in my case. After replacement of the Stack flu sensor my stack temp was only reading 80 degrees, a clear indication that the board needed to be replaced as well.
Replaced board and the heater fired fine and the stack temp reading was normal, 300 degrees.
To obtain a stack temp, after the heater fires hold down the pool or spa button until the temp appears in the display. It will time out after 10-15 seconds.

What does error code r =8 at startup mean? Turned heater on for first time this year. Opened gas valve at tank and shut-off at heater. Pump is running. Turned 220 v breaker on in box and "spa on"...

Mike, I have found what I believe is the correct manual for your heater at http://www.pool-heaters.com/pdf/Pentair-Maxetherm_manual.pdf. I couldn't find an error code list in the manual but I might have missed it. If you call the the StaRite technical support line at 888-782-7483 they should be able to help youfigure this issue out. I hope this helps.
