Re Canon 2600 printer.I recently purchased a black Ink cartridge and replaced the old one. A week later the color cartridge also shows empty even though I hardly use color. Can I not print in greyscale...

Hi,
Please follow the instructions below from Cannon support page...

Setting the Ink Cartridge When printing, you can specify which ink cartridge to use. This is convenient if one of the ink cartridges becomes empty, you can continue printing by specifying the ink cartridge that still has ink. Note:
  • When the following settings are configured, Black Only is disabled. The color ink cartridge is used to print.
  • A type of paper other than Plain Paper is selected for Media Type on the Main tab.
  • Borderless Printing is checked on the Page Setup tab.
  • Canon recommends that you use the ink cartridges installed in the printer and not remove them until the ink runs out.

You can set the Ink Cartridge Settings from the Maintenance tab in the printer driver.

Changing ink default to BLACK

Not possible.
Epson uses the black cartridge mostly, but also adds color to the black printing in order to keep the color inks from drying in the print jets on the printhead.
They also make lots of money that way...

===sorry===

Print WITHOUT colour cartridge

If you right click the printer in the Printers section of the control panel and select printer preferences, there should be a tab called maintenance. In this tab, you should find a setting called Ink Cartridge Settings. Once you click on this setting, click black cartridge only. This should allow the printer to only use the black ink and therefore you won't need color.

If you have any other questions or this doesn't solve your issue, let me know.

Not printing

The remaining levels of the following ink cannot be correctly detected.
Color
The following ink is running low.
Black [830]
Prepare a new ink cartridge.
The resulting print quality may not be satisfactory, if printing is continued under this condition.
If either black or color ink cartridge has run out, you can set the printer to continue printing with the other cartridge from the Ink Cartridge Settings on the Maintenance tab of the printer driver.

Printing blank page

Ok here are a few things to try first, if they fail to work, reply here with the results and we can work from there..

1.) remove the cartridge and blot it on tissue paper to ensure it has ink..

2.) go to the printer preferences
Start / All Programs / Printers and Faxes,,
Right Clik on the printer and click properties

YOUR PRINTER SETTINGS MAY VERY FROM HERE BUT ITS BASICALLY THE SAME PRINCIPAL AND YOU WILL FIND THE FEATURES JUST PROBERALLY IN ANOTHER LOCATION

Click Printing Preferences then maintenance
Click Cartridge settings
Ensure its set to print from both black and color cartridge..

Just find the settings and make sure its set to print from both cartridges..

Let me know how that plays off and we can work from there...
but that should work..
