Broken Water Dispenser Arm - GE Monogram Side-by-Side

The plastic arm on my GE side-by-side refridgerator broke off. I need to replace the entire piece and have a replacement part in-hand. However, I cannot figuroe out how and where to take the old part out and put in the new. Can anyone advise me on how to install this part?

GE Monogram ZIS480D broke again

GE refridgerators have what they call a main dome control board. This is located on the back of the machine, usually closer to one side or the other and about halfway up the machine. This board really controls everything, even as far as the dispenser in the door. I personally think this is a poor design, even though they look awesome cosmetically. Locate your model number, usually in the refridgerator side somewhere, and go to to order the part. This is becuase they have a return policy that no one can beat. If you install the part and it doesn't work they will take it back and refund you, where as any other part distributor have a no return policy on electronic parts. Good Luck, but you won't need it. This is an easy repair

Water does not fill ice tray GE refridgerator

Hi Alice. If I was nearby I would stop by and take a look for you but since we are cyber only I will assist you and yes, you can fix this yourself!

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

Ice maker has stopped making ice. It appears no water is getting to the ice tray. There's no sound (click) when I flip the on/off switch (but I don't know if there's supposed to be any sound). It worked...

The first step you need to do is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed.
If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board. If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker. You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.

Thank you for contacting

Broken water dispenser arm

I just fixed this today. 01/2/08

First, I got some super glue from Lowes especially designed for plastics.

I first glued some metal strips to the back or the broken off lever, so it will have extra support once glued back. I then applied glue to the broken surface of the lever arm and the support arms I glued earlier.

Super glue it awesome, just had to hold it in place for 1 minute, then let it cure for a few hours... working good as new.

I'm glad this worked for me, as I did not want to have to search for the part and then worry about taking the refrigerator apart.

After repair, I had to educate my wife on how to slam a cup into the arm HEHE.

I'm just a home owner, not an expert. Could be a frozen line. I think GE has had problems with this. I think they've retro-fitted their doors with better insulation that prevents the lines from freezing.

GE Monogram ZISS480DMCS Ice Maker Problem

Check and make sure that the float arm in the ice bin is down and able to swing. This arm should be down until the bin is full of ice which would raise the arm and stop any water flow until ice cubes are removed, and allows the arm to drop again to start the cycle all over again, to replace the ice that was used. The arm has a spot to snap in and be held where it would be in a position all the way raised, to allow the bin to come out for cleaning or all of the ice removal from the bin, such as to dump the ice in a cooler. The arm should be gently pulled down to hang freely and will slowly raise on its own as the bin fills with ice.

Plastic arm of water dispenser broken off - need help trying to remove plate to access screws for replacement

Try looking under bottom edge of control pad that says monogram on it. You should see 2 or 3 holes. Push in with a blunt object in either end hole while pulling panel forward. Then dot the center if has one, then the end one. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POWER OFF!! Now you can see 4 screws to access rest of dispenser.
