How to Cook a 21.5-Pound Turkey at 325 Degrees Fahrenheit ...

https://www.livestrong.com > Food and Drink

Nov 20, 2017 - Expect it to take 4.5 to 5 hours to cook a 21.5-pound turkey at 325 degrees Fahrenheit -- if your turkey is unstuffed. If it's full of your favorite stuffing, add at least 15 minutes to the total cooking time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This table from the USDA is based on a 325°F oven, and a fully defrosted or fresh bird. (For an unstuffed bird, we're talking roughly 15 minutes per pound.) If you want to cook a frozen turkey, it will take at least 50 percent longer than the recommended times.

Roasting times for a turkey

hi cathy.
For a standard turkey that's around 6kg/13lb, the cooking time will be around 4 hours. It's best to calculate your cooking time at 40 minutes per kg or 20 minutes per lb to get the most accurate time.

How long can aturkey be keot frozen before cooking

Hi rollande laframboise

I have kept turkeys frozen for 4 years, and cooked them and they were as good as fresh turkey,as long as the turkey is properly vacuumed packed 3 to 4 yrs is not an unreasonable time to keep the turkey...if not properly vacuum packed, cook within 3 months or it may get "freezer burned"...dried out and tastes "funny" (not good).

What temp for turkey done ?

Always use an oven bag is used to promote even cooking.

Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) for 7 to 9 minutes per pound rotating dish every 15 minutes. Not recommended for turkey over 12 pounds
Use an instant-read thermometer after cooking. Turkey is done when thermometer reads 180 degrees to 185 degrees F for whole turkey or 170 degrees to 175 degrees F for turkey breast. Insert thermometer through **** in oven bag into inner thigh for whole turkey or into thickest part of breast for turkey breast.
For easy slicing, let stand 10 minutes after removing from microwave oven. To open, carefully cut or **** top of oven bag. NOTE Microwave directions were tested in 600 to 700-watt microwaves. Higher or lower wattage ovens may need adjustment in cooking times.

I do not have the book and need to know if I am supposed to pour liquid in the bottom of the roaster when I start the turkey.

No, you never put water between the roaster and the cooking pan/ cookwell/ insert, it actually interferes with the cooking. You can put a little water in the bottom right under the turkey, but the roaster cooks very moist and this is really not necessary.

Check the fit- you need about an inch all around including the top to get good cooking. Any place it touches the sides it will tend to overcook.

The Rival manual suggested 375 for pre basted or 350 for fresh 9-14 minutes per pound. In my experience this is too hot. I use 325 for 4 to 4 3/4 hours at 325 for an 18 pound turkey; a 21 pounder takes about 35-45 minutes more. The USDA now uses 165 as the end point temp (down quite a bit from a few years ago), but if you stuff, that has to be in the middle of the stuffing, and the turkey will overcook somewhat while it gets there. All experts agree that turkeys cook better and safer if unstuffed, so considering that you will have to make an extra pan of stuffing to have it for everyone, you would be well advised to cook your turkey unstuffed and use some of the drippings to flavor the pan of stuffing while the turkey rests.

Left my instruction book at home in NC

The formula for calculating turkey cooking time is 3 minutes per pound, then add 5 minutes to total cooking time, rounding to nearest minute: 13.86 lbs. x 3 mins           41.58 mins Plus 5 minutes                + 5.00 mins                                       =46.58 mins Total cooking time             47.00 mins.

Insert cooking thermometer into the deepest part of turkey and make sure an internal temp of 180 F is reached.
