I have 2 mono Power Amps that were designed and built for me about 30 years ago. They have been in storage for about 12 years and I just got them out to test them. They were rated at 400 Watts into 8 ohms. When I tested them, one worked perfectly bot the other one produces no sound at all. I tried each one through the same channel of the preamp with the same wires to elliminate that as a cause. I read the voltage just before it goes into the circuit boards and both amps mathched, so the power supply seems to be working fine. I checked all fuses and all have continuity. What might cause no sound at all? These were really nice sounding amps and I'd love to have them both working again as one without the other makes them useless. They were originally designed and built by my uncle (a DIY audiofile), but he is no longer alive to help. I remember that the transisters he used were called Mosfets. They are very large and each amp has 12. They say Motorola on them and I remember him waiting a long time to get them. Thanks
Since this is a custom design, there is little we can do without seeing the unit directly. This unit should be brought to an audio repair shop. Ask for an estimate. I doubt that this will be a major problem as most designs are similar in many respects. There are a number of reasons for no sound at all. Without seeing the design and taking voltage measurements while on, there is little we can do. The good thing is that you have a working design available as well. That will allow a good tech to A/B the units to assist in understanding the design.

Currently have a Denon avr 3805 with no HDMI output. Trying to hook up Sony BDP 360 Blue Ray using optical adio through the receiver and direct HDMI from blue ray to TV. The audio works but getting no picture.

I have a UPA-100 amp as part of a 4 piece 100 set, which refuses to power up. The system switches on via the UTU-100 Tuner unit and the amp used to make a discernable internal 'click' before powering up the. Sadly no more. I vaguely remember the system having some kind of delay after switching on whilst it checked that the volume was not set too high before power was passed on to the remainded of the system. Maybe it is this switch that has now failed.
