No sound on my PhilipsDVP642/37 DVD Player

I have had the above DVD player about a year and suddenly there is no sound. The video works, it is not the discs - I have checked them on another player I have and they work. I have removed all of the connections and reconnected everything. I checked the mute and everything I can think of. Can you help me? I know they are very inexpensive, so should I just purchase another one? Thanks

There's a 6.3 amp fuse in the subwoofer that can be replaced.

My 6 months old LG DVD player flashes me "disc error" using almost any cd/dvd. then suddenly one or two works.. Sounds like a cleaners job - but is this a well know problem with these players??....

That shouldn't be happening. That is a fault in the product that isn't your fault at all. If I were you, I'd call and make a claim. This is their support representative's number. 1 (800) 243-0000

Can I connect a blu-ray player to the hometheatre system?

Technically, yes but not so it would yield BD-quality audio or video. You need a control receiver that accepts either HDMI/DVI INPUT for 720I and above video. The digital audio in will probably suffice.

I have an old Zenith Digital Surround System the Receivver is a Model Z763B with a DVD Player/Recorder connected. When I play a DVD or VHS the sound can be heard through the TV and the Sound System,...

I have the same A/V receiver and in my setup there is an audio output (red and white able) coming from DVD player directly into Zenith Z763B. The video from DVD Player goes to TV input (yellow cable).
There might be alternatives to the setup mentioned above but I like to watch movie in a surround sound, rather than output from TV.

Pretty colors

Sounds like the other DVD player went bonkers. Try unplugging power on the DVD player you were playing the game on for 5 minutes, then plug it back in.

Not really an option to modify cable.Connections inside subwoofer and main unit are difficult to work with.Common problems with dvd are laser/traverse deck failure and dvd tray ailgnment. You can run a seperate Dvd player by using the Tv or Tape audio input in the receiver and run the Video cable direct to TV.

Movie freezes, skips.

Does sound like the laser. Realitically, not worth repairing. I'd say you'd be worth connecting a cheap DVD player to the system - then the Sony can carry on providing the surround sound audio and the new DVD player can provide the video. Then, if the cheap DVD player is still going, it can move to a bedroom TV if and when you replace the surround system....

Otherwise, I would imaging the speaker set (and even the non-working DVD player) on its own might fetch a reasonable price on an auction site - anyone who has a stolen DVD unit will probably be desparate for the speakers as Sony don't sell them separately!
