The lap top wasdropped
Under your laptop, there is one screw with a CD/DVD disk sign beside it, unscrew it and then you can pull on the drive to remove it and inspect it. It might need replacement or you might have broken something inside. Good luck.

There is a very small hole in the cd tray, left or right side of the
eject button of the CD/DVD tray.... insert a very small needle or a
hardwire of 2 inches length and the cd will automatically come out of
the tray..

If you go here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. You can download an excellent media player that will play DVDs, and also .mpg, .mpg4, etc
And it is free.

SOURCE: my cd/dvd driver e is not listed in my lap top.
Delete the Upper and Lower Filters registry values from the
Windows registry and then restart the Computer as mentioned on this page.
This should resolve the issue.
