I have a probloem with Acer 3100 Laptop USB Ports

My Acer 3100 Laptop USB Ports Stops working whenever I plugin any external Drive or Flashdrive to the Ports. When I hookup a flashdrive or external drive to the USB Port the Cursor and any other program running on the Laptop will stop working.

How can I fix this problem? Can anyone help me please???
