Your unit should have voice. Here is the manual in case you don't have it. If you need further help, please ask. I am unclear if you think your GPS is faulty or you just need help with set up.

Well according to Megellan, it does have turn by turn voice prompt.
    http://www.magellangps.com/products/prod...

Page 5 in the manual explains the volume control. Tap the speaker icon,
tap inside the volume adjust bar to adjust volume, tap save. Please try
this. If it doesn't work still, your unit is faulty. Unfortunately I
cant see it in person to check it out. There is no other solution. Nobody said you were stupid and I am only trying to help with the only possible solution. It happens that sometimes little things get overlooked.

According to the company, it does have that option. If yours doesn't and you don't think it's faulty then problem solved. You particular unit then does not have that option.

Ok, my mistake, its the 4040 that names the streets. The 4000 just announces the turns. I apologize for my overlook. The 4040 is the next model up and has a few more features that the 4000 doesnt.

TomTom® XL 330S GPS Receiver street names announced?

your xl will not say street names if its using a human voice, because it can not convert text to speech

you have to use the computer generated voice option to utilize the text to speech feature.

tap the map screen, the go in the preference option, then locate the change voice option.

on my xl its on the 4th page but your 330 may differ slighly.

it probably wont tell you which are computer or human generated, so youll have to experiment.

you can read about your voice options HERE

you can get a copy of your manual HERE if you need one.

Not speeking street names

go to the:

1-change preferences
2-change voice

than you need to select female voice but it might be female computer voice! Because only female computer voice can speak street names.

Help - my Garmin 260W no longer announces street names. How can I get this feature to reactivate????

All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting, please follow these steps:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench Icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Language*
  4. Touch on the blue rectangle that corresponds with Voice
  5. Touch on a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Touch Ok
The voice has now been changed.

If this is not what you meant, please reply with further details. If you found the solution resolved your issue, kindly take a moment to award this a Fixya rating in appreciation of my efforts.

Thank you.

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. – I would greatly appreciate a FixYa! rating if the solution I provided fixed or helped you resolve your problem.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Speaking the names of major streets

It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.

Magellan maestro 4000, 4040, 4050 vs mio c220,c230,

Don't buy a Magellan. There is little to no support, and their web based support redirects to no where useful for upgrades. I'd sell you my 4040, but can't in good conscience sell it to anyone.
