I have c4 followed by 13 code.

Unit runs about 3 minutes then shuts down. I can reset it and same result happens. I found some water in exhaust duct and suspect water in heat exchanger jacket. ?? we've had heavy rains in last week and I think moisture is an issue. I blew out the burner area as suggested by the manufacturer with no improvement. I'm hoping the issue corrects itself as the moisture evaporates.

The problem has resolved itself. It's now working fine. I suspect that with the heavy rains we had, water blew into the vent. The vent rises about a foot off the water heater then goes horizontal through the wall for about four feet, then vertical for a foot with a 90 degree elbow on top with a screened vent cap on that. It's obvious that the water got into the vent with no way out except to the water heater itself.I suspect the water clogged the vent exhaust and thus the c4/13 code. The vent is better protected from the elements now.

is the water heater vent vertical or does it go horizontal at an angle and does the vent have the proper cap at top?

Code 13 is a lack of combustion air in the area, or poor combustion. try getting some more air in the room with a fan and see if it runs

C4 13

Could be bad thermocouple, or oxygen sensor, not enough fresh air to unit.
Probably bad PC board. Rheem will send new board and you can install yourself.

Bad PC board is kind of like the motherboard on your computer, so expect same level of performance after replacing motherboard ... which usually means the computer's days are numbered before another major problem.

I have a paloma tankless water heater about 3 years old model PTG-74PVN and it works for 2 minutes and shuts off with error code C4 and 13 flashing. (City water pressure is fine)Can anyone help? Thanks...

I had the same problem with my Paloma a year and a half after installation...contacted Rheem customer service (800-432-8373) and they recommened a local installer in my area. The technican diagnosed the problem as the "flow control valve"; he managed to get Rheem/Paloma to cover the part under warranty...I only had to shell out the money for the install.

Rheem Pronto RTG-74 error code C4

Error code 13 is "oxygen depletion sensor" activated.
The first number is a sequence indicator.
If you need the training manual I have it and can send it to you.
I got Rheem to send it to me a while back and it is a big help when working with these units.
It covers th RTG-42, 53, 66 and 74.

Rheem RTG 53 PVN with fault codes C4 or C7

I had the same problem with my tankless waterheater (flashing c4 76 alternately). I called Rheem
tech support and they had me 1 power down the remotepanel 2 unplug the unit from the wall 3 remove the cover 4 remove the wires for the remote panel from the circuit board and pull the twisted pair that goes to the remote out from the bottom of the unit. 5 reinstall the cover 6 plug the unit back
into the wall and turn on the hot water see if it works. It did in my case and they are sending me a new remote panel. I hope it helps.........
