SOURCE: my computer does not see my external hard dive
Go to this webpage (Seagate) http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/ and choose from the SeaTools and FreeAgent Drivers that are appropriate for your OS and particular model. Formatting the harddrive should not have caused this problem of not being connected, but it is possible there was a piece of software that communicated with the computer that was removed via the format.
SOURCE: how to format IDE hard drive?
This drive is an IDE drive. The jumpers can be set on it to make it a slave.
Once set as a slave, you can identify the drive letter given to this drive and format it either at a command prompt: C:> format [drive:] /s (to make it bootable) or no /s to just format it.- OR within Windows: right click on the drive letter and select format.
SOURCE: why i cant format my seagate 500gb potable hard
I am having the exact problem with my seagate portable expansion external hard drive 500GB. Only difference is, i just bought mine today and when i plugged it, it displayed. I copied files on to it but these files and folders just disappeared on their own and i tried formatting it but it won't format with any file system. Now i cant access the drive and i can't format it.
