Question about Plumbing

Pump spinning but not getting up to speed then shuts off

My 3hp irrigation booster pump is connected to a pond. It has a 30-50 pressure switch that automatically turns the pump on and off as needed. Installed one year ago and has worked great until this week. When the pressure switch signals a drop in the PSI it tries to turn on hte pump. The pump spins for 5 to 10 seconds and may or may not start. If it does not start, it waits about 10 minutes and tries again. If it does start it runs for a few minutes and then shuts off (sometimes before reaching the full 50 PSI mark). With the pump off, pressure drops and the cycle repeats. If the pump does not start the line pressure drops to 10 PSI. Does this sound like an issue with the pressure switch, capacitor, or motor??

You have a pressurized system using a pressure tank. This is a case of an air logged pressure tank. Meaning there is more air than water in the pressure tank. The pressure tank must hold 2/3 water and 1/3 air of its total volume. Installed at the tank is the air volume control to take care of this proportion. Should the air volume control malfunction or becomes defective, the air-water ratio is affected. And then,
the pressure tank becomes either air logged or water
logged.
SOLUTION:
1. Shut the power off, and open the discharge line
gate valve to flush the water in the pipe lines.
2. Open the drain plug of the pressure tank to empty
all the water at the pressure tank.
3. Close the drain plug, and put the power on.
4. Start the pump, and set the flow control valve 1/4
open.
5. The pump will normally run.

What causes my booster pump to increase pressure even after I shut power and or water supply off?

something wrong here. your incoming pressure is 4 psi ( tank pressure to the pump and you use a pump to boost pressure to a maximum of 65 psi at which point the pump is shut off ( all taps close off)
yet with no pumps running the pressure goes up to 100 psi
Find where you are getting pressure in that is making the pump leak
if you have 100 psi to the pump when it is turned off, then it would not be turning on ( power on) as the shut off pressure is set at 65 psi and the line pressure is 100 psi

Have deep well vetical sta rite pump both pipes in ground staying full of water will not pump press does not looose prime but wont build press

shut off pump breaker at the lowest faucet drain completely. Turn it back on. If this doesn't work, you have to change out the pressure valve on the side of the tank. it's not hard.

Replace the start/run capacitor. What you are doing by hand is very dangerous.

Your booster, what shut it off in the past? Does this work through a independent relay that is powered by the pool pump circuit?

Sounds like you have an air leak. First check your fittings, next carefully run water over the pump seals (avoid getting water on the motor or you'll hurt yourself and the pump if not worse) the pump will prime if the leaking seal is covered with water. Take your time and be careful and it should only be a matter of a loose fitting or simple seal swap.

It sounds as if the mechanical seal is leaking. it could be a defect or was the pump allowed to run dry. The mechanical seal relies on the water to keep it from overheating. You can ruin a seal in a very short time if it runs dry.

when using the spicket you use less flow than your irrigation system so a delay in the pump coming on is normal...otherwise if you are having the same problem when the irrigation is running..a pressure switch adjustment may be necessary...please follow the manufacturer instructions for your pressure switch.

Execetive 56 4hp pump

Looking at the face of the pump, the impeller unscrews by turning it counterclockwise. Also, for some strange reason, the 4HP pump gets a 3HP impeller; the rating is embossed, in very small letters, near the center of the impeller. The 3HP impeller part number is: 310-4200.
Be sure to change the seal: US Seal P/n: PS-1000.
