On your dipstick it should have some kind of indicator, two dots, fill to here, or just a line. If two dots fill oil to in between the dots. If a line stop when you get there.

Your dip stick has a max fill line marked on to the end

On SOME of the Harleys with the oil tank mounted below the transmission, the oil feed line needs to be "bled", so the oil pump doesn\'t "cavitate" (suck air).
Unhook the oil feed (not return) line at the engine, and allow some oil to flow out (removing oil fill cap helps) to get air out of line.
Replace line and try again.
Also, if you didn\'t pour some oil into the filter prior to installing it, it will take a little time for it to fill (AFTER the oil runs through the engine)

A 30 Weight Non Detergent Oil will work for your compressor. Make sure to fill it to the fill line on your dipstick. It will have an indicator on the bottom of it telling you where the maximum amount should be. Be sure not to pass the fill line or the oil will be sucked into the pump.

3.5 - 4 quarts.but check oil dipstick and slowly add to full line remember to wipe clean reinsert to check...oil filter will need to fill as well so once oil is almost filled run engine for about a minute then shut off and fill to full line.

LOOK UNDER THE HOOD LOOK ON FRONT VALVE COVER THATS WHERE OIL FILL CAP LOCATED.YOU HAVE A OIL LEVEL DIP STICK BELOW THE FRONT VALVE COVER.LOOK ON THE OIL LEVEL DIP STICK WHEN ADDING OIL DONT OVER FILL THE FULL MARK LINE ON OIL DIP STICK THAT WHERE YOUR OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE DONT GO PASS THE FULL MARK.

Buy a 4 litre can of 10/40w, of good quality and fill inbetween the dip stick marks roughly about 3.5 liters,if you have a sight glass stand bike fully upright,get a mate to help then fill to inbetween the sight mark lines. If replacing the oil filter fill it up and lightly oil the o ring ,and do up tight by hand.Filling the oil filter will stop the enging running dry untill full,and give accurate fill reading.

The top is the fill line, but most run the oil to around the middle of the two lines to avoid oil blow by out of the air filter.

if you add too much oil yes you can damage it.you can blow the seal out of the oil pan or cause more pressure than the car needs
