Better replace a whole unit, than you have guarantee on whole unit not just on compressor.
And your unit is old 8 years, replace it and you have a new.
It is also my suggestion.

Whirlpool refrigerator compressor

I would seriously NOT recommend doing this! Trying to run a 110 volt appliance at 220 volts is too much power for the electrics inside the refrigerator (or any 110v appliance) to cope with. You will 'Fry' the electrics possibly even risking causing a fire.
Do you have a model or serial number for this refrigerator? You might have to see if you can source one online and import it from the US. That could get expensive!
A simple and obvious answer here if the part is so difficult to get, is to buy a whole new refrigerator. Compare the cost of both options as it may be cheaper to replace the whole appliance.

I have a Goodman A/C cplj36-1B that's making a loud rattling noise; however, it is still working. a back yard ac guy came out took the cover off and said it was the compressor going bad. my electric...

Hello, the rattling sound very well may be the compressor as the internal parts are wearing out or liquid refrigerant flooding the compressor. Best thing is to have a technician attach gauges to the unit and observe the operating pressures, this will determine the cause. Also the electric bill will be higher if the compressor is drawing more amps due to it going bad.

My fan in the outside unit will not shut off and runs all the time, my electric bill was $400 last month! A neighbor claims i need freon another guy (HVAC mechanic) told me it was the compressor and that I...

Hello, it sounds to me like it is the contactor coil on the outside unit, a contactor is like a relay and energizes when power is applied to it, If this contactor is stuck or bad it will cause the fan to run continously. I will post a pic of the contactor coil so you can see what it looks like. Most likely replacing the contactor coil will solve the problem and cost about 15 bucks at a heating and cooling store. robhvac47_15.jpg

The Windchaser tech guys determined that the compressor on our portable AC unit failed, and they sent a refurbished replacement for the whole unit. I'm wondering what the options might be for salvaging...

It probably is not worth trying to salvage it, which is the reason you received a refurbished unit. It would really depend on what is wrong with it. Unless you are trained to handle refrigerant, I would recommend you not trying to mess with the compressor.Unless it had a leak, it should be under pressure, which could hurt you if you attempt to open it up. As far as the rest of the system goes you may use parts off of it to make repairs on the refurbished unit, should the occasion arise, providing it is the same model.

My Trailer AC doesnt cool below 75 degrees. I feel no differnce between the coldest setting on AC than on the Fan cycle. I cannot hear the cooling system kick on at all.

If you don't here the compressor kick in after about 3 min then the thermastat is not telling the compressor to com on, or the control board is not telling the compressor to come on. The power can be traced from thermastat to the control board and will have a 12volt feed on the yellow wire at the control board with compressor mode on. From there it is 120volts the control board has a relay that turns on the compressor. the compressor capasiter can cause the compressor not to come on, normally it will have burnt wiring.

I have pretty much the same problem

THE INSIDE FAN WILL RUN IF YOU HOLD THE CONNECTOR IN, TRY THE SAME THING OUT SIDE FIND THE CONTACTOR FOR THE OUTSIDE UNIT AND PUSH IT IN WITH SOME THING INSULATED SEE IF THE COMPRESSOR STARTS AND THE OUTSIDE FAN COMES ON IF THIS WORKS YOU WILL NEED TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE UNIT

WEATHERKING 10AJA4801 BAD COMPRESSOR

You have 10 seer 4 ton unit. A compressor install in my company (4 ton) is about 1400 dollars. Remember when you change compressor you only get a 1 year warranty. A new unit can have as much as 10 year compressor warranty. Amana has a 10 year parts and labor with their unit. The new unit will be 13 seer and you may have to install a TXV inside. You might think about changing the whole system with the new 410A system. Either way a new condensing unit is needed. I have not had anyone just change a compressor in an older unit. Just not cost effective. Get several estimates before you make up your mind. Rus

Cost to replace carrier 38ckc060

Did your unit work last summer? 10 Years old is very soon unless it is a cheap unit like janitrol or goodman. Most units last min. 15 years and 20 most of the time. Generally speaking any ways. To replace compressor cost maybe 750.00 to 1,000.00 you have a big house looks like. 5 Ton unit. The whole system could be 6000.00 to 8000.00 depending on grade of unit. I would get a second opinion though cause I am wondering if they are just padding their pocket.
