What does error code AO 38 or RO 38 mean with a TEAC HDB848 digital receiver?

Id the TV Anolog or Digital? If it is analog, then the digital receiver must have RCA outputs to meet the TV's RCA inputs. To make an old analog TV work (meaning getting a picture), you have to check id the receiver has RCA or S-Video outputs. If so, then connect an RCA cable with yellow into yellow, red into red and white into white and then connect the same colors plugs to the yellow, red and white to the RCA inputs of the TV. Or, you can connect a S-Video cable plugs in the output of the receiver and the input of the TV, disconnect the yellow RCA plugs at both the receiver and TV sockets and leave the red and white cable for sound only, as S-Video has an improved video signal, therefore better picture quality. On the TV you have to select an AV input channel, like AV1 or AV2, etc. The same channels that you had used when you were once watching VCR tapes on analog TV. Hope this helps.

Try this first, if you have a digital camera with a display screen take the remote to a very dark room and point remote at the camera with camera on, press buttons on remote and look for a tiny flash of light on the display screen of the camera, no flash will mean remote not sending.

remote problems usually one of three things: batteries or contacts for them, something spilled on remote (there some but not all buttons will work) and remote may have been dropped--when this happens the small led inside that sends the infrared signal can break loose from the board in the remote where it is soldered in.

Any shop can test the remote without the set and in ours we fix them in most cases.

Only one other possible reason, the remote receiver in the set has failed and would have to be replaced.

Hi, I work for Directv in the technical department... it is normal for the error message you listed to display on the tv when programming the remote. All you have to do is completely ignore whatever it says on the screen and just complete the remote programming process. I will summarize the instructions for you: First, press and hold mute and select until the green light above the mode switch on the REMOTE flashes twice(can take about 5 seconds of holding down before the green light flashes), then enter your 5 digit code using the keypad on the remote(no matter what it says on the screen-still ignore), after entering the code the green light should immediately flash twice again(that confirms the code was entered correctly), once that happens try pressing the volume up button on the remote, if volume bar displays on the screen increasing the volume then that is the correct code. Once that is all done and volume then works from directv remote slide the mode switch on remote back over to the left under DTV symbol and use remote as normal. Once you change channels or pretty much press any button on remote that is Directv related the error messages will disappear. I usually just press the exit button on the remote in irectv mode to clear the error messages. Hope this helps. :)

You can verify for sure if the remote is putting out the signal or not by using the digital camera, just point the remote at the camera lens, you should see flashing lights on the camera's screen when you push any remote buttons.
Otherwise the problem can be the remote receiver in the TV is bad.

Is this the original Sharp remote or Universal remote controller? If you do not have a remote checker, you can verify if the remote is putting out any infrared signal by pointing at your digital camera lens, you should see flashing light on your digital camera screen. If it does put out signal, then it can be the IR receiver in the TV itself.

If u dont have a remote for these, it is just the programming setup, i have same prob, but because I dont have a remote I cant get past it
