Colored Backgrounds and/or Fonts display improperly on PC

The background on my computer screen is always white! Mail or websites that appears on my Blackberry device with pretty colored backgrounds is seen as just plain white on my PC screen. Also, if I fill out an application online and make a mistake, the instructions often say something like, "please fix the items marked in red," yet there are never any items that appear in red on my screen! I have no idea what to do about this. Can anybody help?
