Re: wont install

I have only tried this on Windows XP. If you can connect to the web using a hard line you can get this running. Make sure you have internet. Then plug the wireless adapter into the usb port and when windows ask if it can search the internet say yes. That will install a driver for the wusb54gc. Then windows will manage the device. Linksys only has the option to download the installer as opposed to just the driver. What a pain when the installer doesn't work.

I have read through the site and have a lot of the same problems with my adapter. I installed a wg111 usb adapter on my computer running xp service pack 2. The internet works briefly for about 30 seconds...

ok try to configure it with windows .
follow the steps below..
Remove all software related to the wireless card
It will remove the drivers also.
then after restart it will detect the card again and then you browse for the driver from the cd.
Don't install the utility software. Only the drivers.
ok once the driver is setup configure it in windows..

one thing you make sure that your pc is not infected with spyware or virus
Use malwarebyte, scan and remove spys its free for 30 days.
ok follow steps from here to see matching
configurations :

ok open control panel then select network connection, then double click on your active wireless connection and
click properties then click wireless networking next to general tab
then you will get a window like this

ok under preferred network select the default network and click on properties
in the association window type your network key.
then remove the tick in the box below that say the key is provided for me automatically.
one thing is that be sure to use either windows configuration or the netgear software..
Don't use both or configure both they will be conflicts...

Well, it asks you for the login code, if you havent set that code then its set by the manufacture, it should be in the manual who came together with your netgear, it looks like something like this:
Try to find it in the manual.

Good luck to you

Netgear wg111v2 wireless usb adapter wont acquire ip address

Not sure if this is where you are looking, but it probably is. click START then CONNECT TO then SHOW ALL CONNECTIONS then right click LOCAL AREA CONNECTION click STATUS then SUPPORT,,,
See what you have there for an IP address
Is it the computer you don't have an IP for or the router? In my case my computer IP the 8th or last digit is the next number after what it is for the router. The other numbers are the same

How i can stop change winows XP icon after software istallion

I think I experienced the same problem you're describing. After installing the NetGear USB adapter, Windows XP stopped using the "friendly" way of logging on -- where it has a nice icon for each user -- and started using the "ugly" logon. You get a username/password dialog box.

I checked with NetGear tech support, and they sent me the following steps:

1. After installing the new driver/utility for WG111v2, click Start --
Run and type regedit.
2. When the registry editor opens browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software /Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/WINLOGON.
3. Delete the key named GINAdll.
4. Afterward you may want to go back into the control panel and check
the 'change the way users log on or off' and make sure the welcome
screen and fast user switching are both checked.

They also included the common sense caution that you should not edit your registry unless you know what you're doing. You can screw up your computer by improperly editing your registry. However, the steps are easy enough to follow that you should be safe if you exercise caution.

I would add that this didn't fully solve my problem. Although things work fairly well in most cases, when I wake up my machine after it has gone to sleep (due to a period of inactivity), the screen is messed up. Instead of giving me the normal logon screen, I get a messed up version of my desktop, and I am not able to log on. I have to turn off the computer's power and restart it.

To work around this problem, I try to always shut down completely when I log off instead of allowing the machine to go to sleep.
