Question about Samsung Projection Televisions

Open Question

HLR5066W Hi there name is Brad and am having problems with my pitcure quality.I cannot find my manual to trouble shoot and my pitcure is really dark. I have tried using the remote to brighten up the pitcure and have put the brightness and contrast to 100 percent but I can not get the tint to high light so I can ajust this. I am wonderring if there is a manual or some way to find out how to high light the tint before I pay a 100 dollar service call on Monday for tech to try this,or is my projection bulb fried. We purchased this great T.V 18 months ago and you can see the pitcure but it is so dark hard to watch the hockey game because you can't see the puck.Die hard Leafs Fan please help Cheers Brad MacIsaac

Yes, they dim as they age, and you've done well to get 3 years out of one.
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy.

This is no solution but a point in a probable direction.

A tech guy told me ALL the LCDs they have seen in their repair shop have "swollen" capacitors, this is due to voltage instability. Lowering the internal voltage regulator and replacing the swollen capacitors (which eliminate noise) apparently restores the LCD to new working quality. Without actually "seeing" my problem the tech said that should repair it. I have not tried this yet but eventually will begin that way.

SOURCE: dim picture

If decide to do yourself, ya only have to do the green and blue ones, the red light spectrum won't allow fungal growth. Pull whole CRT assembly out to prevent spilled/leaking glycol from onto lower main boards

SOURCE: I have a Philips Magnavox ptv843 and it has a red

These TV's are known for polluted coolant in the picture tubes. The coolant is between the lense and the tube. The factory has a Service Bulletin about this problem and they say to change the coolant in each picture tube. This will make the TV look like it did when it was new.

Picture quality is really dark, have cleaned everything, still doesn't work

Presuming you cleaned the lens and the mirror you may have a problem in (yes) the power supply---some of these develop an issue where the filament voltage for the 3 picture tubes goes down as a resistor in the supply from age goes UP in resistance---going to need a meter and a service manual to find that.

If that is beyond you then consider getting a tech or a shop to look at the set.

Let me know if you have questions.

Dark pitcure

Some of these sets have two mirrors--large one in back and a smaller one in bottom front and both are behind the screen.

The small one gets dirty and picture will be very dark.

let me know if you have questions.

I have a mitsubishi wd 65738. My picture suddenly went dim. I can still see a picture but the room has to be very dark and its still hard to see. Do I just need to replace a bulb?

Its bulb has got traoubled or its control circuit has some faut with it. it is not a user serviceable item. Replacing bulb can be done by the user according to the instructions in its user manual. But trouble shooting its control section must be done be any experienced service technician. OK.

Won"t stay on

Something is out of tolerance in the horizontal deflection circuit. You should try resoldering the horizontal output and driver transformer. If that doesnt help you will need to troubles shoot the deflection circuits. If you need a link to get a good quality service manual for your model let me know and I will post a link.

Getting there...

You would need the service manual and actually trouble shoot the input circuits. If you would like a link where you can purchase the manual and have it emailed instantly to you let me know. The service manuals there are cheap and the quality is exceptional.
