Question about Lexmark C510 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Small lines or specks on the right side of every page

I am getting little specks or lines about two inches from the bottom on the very right side of every page.

When I print in color, the specks or lines are in color, and when I print in black-and-white, the specks or lines are black. This happens on every page I print.

I have replaced both the fuser and the photodeveloper cartridge recently, but it does not make any difference.

Did you try cleaning the lense? You'll have to pull all the toners and open the little door below and wipe with a clean lint free cloth in ONE direction.

When scanning, why does the entire left side of page have a line down it one inch in from txt?

If you are scanning from the ADF - open the scanner cover and clean the narrow glass plate at the left end. It is usually caused by a speck of dirt or white out on the glass.

If you are scanning from the platen (large plate) you may have a faulty point on the scanner bar or a dead light diode. Alternatively you may have the source document in the wrong place and you are getting a page edge mark.

Are the lines across the page, in the direction of text, or from top to bottom. If from top to bottom, watch the scanner bar with the cover up, see if anything looks odd. If the paper moves in this machine, like from an auto feeder, it could pick up a streak from something in the path.
Checking, this unit is a laser printer. When replacing toner, there usually is a little tab thingy that is supposed to be moved back and forth over a little wire. The wire must be kept clean, too. Also, there may be a white bar with a glass cover that is to be cleaned very carefully every time toner is changed. Find this piece of glass, a speck of dust is probably your culprit.

Scanner line problem

I suspect that the line is probably when you use the auto document feeder assembly to make copies or scan.

If so, take a look at two different areas.
1.) Open the flatbed and clean and inspect the glass on the left side of the unit make sure that it is free of any foriegn substance.
2.) On the bottom side of the top cover there is a clear mylar strip that is removable(it has a clip at the top of it.) Make sure that it is clean and no paper fibers or white-out is on it.

Because the paper travels through both of these areas the line down the page may only be a speck positioned in the right/wrong place to cause this problem.

If this was helpfull please remember to give me a vote.

Black line on document when I scan from platen or ADF or scan to save as PDF.

As a tech I've never seen that happen. from the doc feeder only Yes, not both the feeder and the glass but not show up when you print from the computer ?????????

For sure there is a dot or something on the small strip of glass, only when you do it from the feeder.
the reason is that the document is moving and the dot on the "small" strip of glass now looks like a line to the copier.

You said it also does it when you lay it down on the glass !!??(platen) that should of indicated the drum has a ring around it, but since it doesn't come out on the PC copy then the glass must have a line on it.

Black Line

Take glass cleaner and clean the small strip of glass to the far right. If there is a speck on that strip of glass it will cause a line when it scans.

Small group of spots repeating on page

Have you tried contacting Okidata, 2000 Bishops Gate Blvd.,Mount Laurel, N.J. 08054-4620 Phone 1-800-OKI-DATA(654-3282) or visit I have a similar problem with my OKIPAGE 10e. 1 inch wide black line, 2 inches from right hand side of page from top to bottom of 8 1/2 x 11 pages. I also cleaned black dust off green roller. Problem continues. Conclusion: I'm not an expert, but I think your wiping, checking, and cleaning, is a waste of time. I think your problem, and mine, is probably not a hardware problem, although I removed my black toner cartridge out of curiosity and perhaps re-installed it incorrectly. My guess is it's some sort of electronic problem, such as programming error, or software problem.
