I work for a nonprofit senior center. We have 5 or 6 APC PRO 500 battery backups. They seemed to be alright, but when the power has gone off, the computers are shutting down. I check the battery voltage it is at 12v dc, when the power is off the backup is only 85 to 88v ac. Could it be the battery amps , and should new batteries take care of this. Its is on more than one. IF its not the batteries what could it be.
Many UPS's have warning lites, or will beep a code (e.g. three beeps might mean "replace batteries") Having said that it's my experience nine out of ten problems ARE related to batteries. Nevertheless various boards DO short out, transformers will short (though in your case I'd consider it down the list) An owners manual or, if available, a service manual is probably available from the manufacters website. Often a call to the tech support people will point you in the right direction.
