DVD not showing a clear picture

My RCA DVD player (about 8 years old)is suddenly not giving a clear picture. I bought a new TV in Feb and everything was working fine. Two things changed since getting the new TV. (1)I rescanned the TV since we went digital (TV is not hooked up to cable) and (2) I bought a used DVD set, started happening while I was watching it. Not sure if either of these things messed it up. The colors are dark and the picture gets wavy and not clear. I checked the red, yellow and white cords and they are all connected correctly. I also used a cleaning disc. If I pick the DVD player up and move it around or prop stuff under it the picture will come in clear for a little bit and then go back to the way it was. Do I need a new DVD player?
