Buy a new dipstick for that make and model. then fill to levels on dipstick do not overfill as you can blow seals on tranny.
shoukld be around 7 quarts
Thanx, I suspected between 7 and 8 qts was about right. Not sure that this trans model has a retrofit dipstick. Will contact dealer. Would rather keep fluid at proper level that I can measure. There was a faint tick - tick - tick ... noise in it. I have to get the right conditions to see if it is still there. Transmission was really clean. By the way in discussion with the Pontiac Service Manager, he recommended to not change fluid since the trans is old and had never, otherwise, been serviced. New fluid, being of high detergent, might do too thorough a cleaning and cause the trans to fail. Fluid had plenty of lubricity to it and did not smell burned so I re-used it making it up with fresh fluid.
