Sunpentown model no. WA-1220H stopped blowing cold air after vacuum cleaning the grille-like looking panel behind the pull-out air filter (had a thick layer of built up dust/dirt). On "fan" mode, fan runs at both high/low speeds fine. On "cool" mode, it takes a couple of minutes before exhaust blows out air intermittently not cold.
Unit needs to be taken apart and washed out , also check to see if motor turns freely by hand , clean base of unit fans / blowers and drain ports / channels . Check outdoor motor to see if bearings are tight or fan overheats and cuts off if so replace outdoor motor .
Thank you for responding! I will try to take it apart tomorrow and try your suggestions. Sorry if this sounds dumb, but when you say washed out, do you mean rinsed down with water? Or just wiped down? Would it be safe to blow debris out with air compressor? I will post a pic of the insides just to be sure I correctly check the parts you mentioned. Thanks again.
Also, unsure what you mean by outdoor motor. This model is one that can be rolled around on caster wheels.

SOURCE: Why is my sunpentown WA-1210H portable AC not
Might be a dirty filter, a burnt compressor wire or a bad capacitor. Or it could be a bad thermostat.

SOURCE: I have a Noma/ DeLonghi portable air conditioner.
Compressor is not starting, it could be a bad or shorted run capacitor, start capacitor and relay, low voltage, loose or disconnected wire or a shorted compressor.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your help..I can't afford to get the unit fixed so I think I'll take it apart just to see what's inside and then I'll take a hammer to it. "

Make sure both the evaporator and condensor coils are clean. After the unit has been off for a couple of hours, start it back up and measure the temperature difference between the air entering into the unit (room air temperature) and the air blowing out of the unit and into your room. You should have approx 20 deg......take this measurement after approx 5 minutes of run time. If the temperature difference less than 15, you may very well have a refrigeration problem. If it is approx 20 degrees, then it could be a dirty coil or an electrical problem.......inspect all of your electrical wires and controls for any signs of overheating.....tighten all connections.
I hope you find this to be very helpful in your diagnosis. :-)
