1- The brew group is out of place. Turn the machine on. Close the service door.
The brew group is automatically placed in the correct position.

2-Coffee grounds drawer is inserted. Remove the dregdrawer first, then the brew
group.

I recently had this problem. I throughly cleaned and lubricated the brew group as directed by the manual. Apparently if the brew group doesn't move smoothly enough it won't grind the correct amount of beans. Try lubricating and then brewing 2-3 cups to have the machine recalibrate the grind amount.

I had the same problem. I got around it by inserting just the grounds container (which sits inside the dregs drawer) and powering the machine on. Then the machine reset itself to the home position. It wouldn't do this with the dregs drawer removed, but putting in just the grounds container fooled it into thinking the dregs drawer was inserted. Hope this helps. JRP

I had a crack in the tube that connected to the brew group that resulted in a similar dumping of coffee in the dregs (and below the dreg drawer and onto the counter) in my Saeco Odea Giro. Replacing the "Saeco Odea Giro Coffee Dispensing Tube, part number 11003468, fixed my problem. You can replace this yourself if you are very handy. That is serious, that means the grinder is jammed or not working. To check the components of the machine follow these instructions.
Press and hold the steam button and turn on the machine, when you see the lights going around in anticlockwise direction, release the button. Turn the coffee dial to the left and press the steam button, the grinder should turn. Dial on the right and pressing coffee ****. water pump runs. Press steam ****. brew group go up, dial 1/4 to left B/Group down.
If grinder not turning the motor is bad. Hope it will help to find out.

Group is stuck in mid cycle due to some obstruction. You will need to have it serviced. Though it's possible to jiggle and pull it out. The machine will not likely reset itself, preventing you from re-inserting the group. Still requires a service to manually remove obstruction and reset it.

First, you're going to need to get the brew group out. Check this out to get the brew group out. You need to remove a screw and pull unless you're really crafty.

After that:

a) Yes, lubing will help.
b) Replace the o-ring on the piston in the brew group (it should be orange). It gets old and gummy creating resistance.
c) Reinforce the weak plastic that gets over-torqued.

I own three of these units, one from 2007 (made in Italy, never broke, has tens of thousands of brews) and two newer units (made in Eastern Europe, fewer brews, both broke). I can distinguish the newer ones because they have a "sleep mode". They really overtorque the gear.

I tried repairing with just glue and that lasted (surprisingly) several months. I tried again by using a thick paperclip as a drill bit and that lasted 7 months.

Now with the holes piloted, I drilled a little wider and put in heavier metal from a heavy-duty binder clip. Cheap and very strong! Let's see how long this lasts.
