Re: mac not identifying camera

Logitech does not make a Mac OSX Driver :(

There are couple ways to get it working.

Try Skype, people have reported that this camera works with skype.

Try one of these. (They are not free so I would try Skype first)

The QuickCam Connect is a brand of Web camera manufactured by Logitech. It is among the lowest-priced in the Logitech line of cameras, and it was developed to work exclusively with the Windows operating system. As a result, the Logitech Web site does not offer software that allows users to connect the webcam to a Macintosh computer. However, third-party software is available at no charge to enable you to use a QuickCam Connect with your Mac.

Plug your QuickCam Connect into an available USB port on the Macintosh. Navigate to the Macam download site, which is hyperlinked on the site or is available below. Note: When you arrive at this download site, the application will immediately begin downloading onto your Macintosh. After the software has downloaded to your computer, it will automatically decompress and a disk drive icon will appear on your desktop. A dialog window will open in the Finder. The Macam application is pictured within the dialog window, and should be highlighted, then dragged to your applications folder. From the "Applications" folder, double-click on the Macam icon and open the program. Navigate back to the Macam dialog window that opened on your desktop after the application was downloaded from the Internet. Highlight and drag the "macam.component" to the "/Library/QuickTime/" folder. Use a simple video viewer to verify that the component is installed correctly. QuickCam Connect and iChat IChat is a popular instant messaging application that comes with the Macintosh OS. The software download that allows you to use a QuickCam Connect with your Mac needs another piece of software to be compatible with iChat. Unfortunately, this compatibility is not free. Navitage to Ecamm Network (see Below) and locate iUSBCam, a software application that will make iChat compatible with QuickCam Connect. IUSBCam costs $9.95 as of January 2010. After purchasing the software, download and follow the installation steps that accompany the application. Help with installation and applications.

Encore Webcam - Incompatible w/iChat on 10.3.9 G4 MHz PwrPC Mac

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype ( ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger ( ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

Running a Logitech Quickcam Fusion webcam on a Mac

There are two different QuickCam Fusions. The older one, like mine, is not UVC compatable, while the new one is. For this reason, the new QuickCam Fusion will work on Mac while the old one will not.

It is semi-pleasing to know that a developer is supposedly working on the old quickcam fusion support in Macam, but I'm not sure how long that will take.

Solution: Wait for that developer.

Communication Errors between Mac & Windows

I'm assuming when you say they login with AOL, that you mean they use AOL Instant Messenger, since iChat is compatible with that. If that is the case, it should work. As long as the chat clienta are compatible, there should be no issue with using a Mac and a PC. What would be helpful is the exact text of the message. Can you post that?

Logitech to Mac

I had a search and found these Q&A's, so see if these can sort out your problem. Q. Can I talk/see to Windows users? A. Yes, there are video conferencing standards in existence, and if these are adhered to and implemented properly it should mean that Mac applications could connect to Windows applications - or even dedicated hardware solutions. However, at the moment, the simplest way is to use iChat on the Mac, and AIM on the Windows system. The results are nowhere near as good as an iChat to iChat link, but it works. Also, consider iVisit, Yahoo Messenger, SquidCam or ohPhoneX. Q. Can I use Virtual PC on the Mac to use MSN Messenger, and so talk to Windows users that way? A. In theory it might work, in practice I've not got it to work using Virtual PC 7 and a USB Logitech webcam. (Virtual PC will definitely NOT support the FireWire iSight camera). The USB camera required drivers to work on the Virtual PC, and installing them caused my iMac G5 to crash. Even if it did work, Virtual PC is NOT fast at this kind of thing and would probably not work very well at all with video conferencing. If you really need MSN Messenger to work quickly with video, it's almost better picking up a cheap PC.
