My zen plus screen freezes

when i switch on my creative zen v plus the start up screen freezes and then it will not switch off or begin to play music, i have tried to connect it to the computer to re-load the firm ware as this has solved previous problems with my creative zen however when connecting my creative zen to my computer, my computer is stating that my creative zen is not connected to the computer even though it is.
