This will be one of two things, 1- a driver glitch, you will need to uninstall the drivers for the cd/dvd drive from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the drive and reinstall the drivers automatically. This will fix it if it's a driver problem. You can also try any updated driver utilities, or patches for the drive from Acer's support site. 2- the cd/dvd drive has failed and needs replaced. These are basically plug and play devices, they either work or they don't, so a majority of the time when the machine stops recognizing the drive, it's because the drive has malfunctioned. Unfortunately, these drives are considered sealed units and replacement parts aren't available.

Hi, the error code that you have is a known issue from Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)". You can click on this link for your reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

This will surely help you resolve your issue. Good Luck!!!

Thanks

Code 39 for cd/dvd drives is a common problem, you need to edit the registry to fix this error. See these instructions on how to fix code 39.

My acer kav60 laptop can not on. It only blinks on the power button when i press it and nothing else. I remove the battery and plug it to direct to AC no sign, i also change the RAM still yet no sign of...

it sounds like it can probably be an issue with the Motherboard or the RAM.

Is the blinking light an amber or green color? If amber, then it might be a RAM issue. If green, the power would be on, but the monitor might not be active/working.

Won't boot indicater lights blink 4 times

does it do anything with ac power and battery removed ,same flashhing? if it does the flashing this is a hardware failure of some kind. just because it flashs 4 times may or may not lead to the true cause . if you have a extra memory stick , i would try using 1 stick at a time if your laptop uses 2 sticks.
Now if it does nothing at all you may have a power adaptor or dc jack problem .

Acer aspire 3690 will not boot, shows 2 blinking amber lights

It's possible that the laptop has a bad power interface (internal). If at possible, I'd exchange/return the new AC adapter and try again. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer.

Hope this help!

Flashing amber light

Attempt to boot the laptop with the battery removed and the AC plugged in. IF this boots ok it may very well be the battery circuitry which has failed.

Acer Aspire 5100-blinking cursor at top/bottom screen after POST

ok, sounds like its got a few major dramas going on but hopefully we can get things going. if its completely failing to post it can only be a bios, ram or CPU failure. if it is posting but not loading windows there can be a few probles. usually if your switching and installed OS from one to another the HAL (hardware application layer) needs to be re-installed to cope with changes in APTI and single/multicore processors. this can be sorted by using the repair console from the windows installation. the serial number comes up with the registration page automatically put onto the OS when installed from the ACER backup partition. this can be accessed via alt+f10 on posting, as if you were going f8 for safemode.

Acer aspire 1360

Hi,

Offhand, it all depends on what other indicators or things that could be determined. Pls try:
  • determine if there is a beeping sound when you boot the laptop;
  • other than the power and charge indicators, any other lights? blinking perhaps?
  • after sufficient time that the unit has powered up, does pressing on the caps lock makes one of the led light up or close?
  • could you try re-seating the memory modules at the bottom behind a panel/lid?
  • could you try hooking it up to an external monitor and trying?
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
